World Snooker Championship Favourites

Who are the favourites to win the World Snooker Championship?

Judd Trump

It's no surprise to see Judd Trump at the top of the betting ahead of the WST's annual showpiece, with the runaway world number one having already captured three titles this year at the Saudi Arabia Masters, Shanghai Masters and UK Championship.

'The Ace in the Pack' does possess winning pedigree at the Crucible on the back of his 2019 triumph there, but has endured difficulties in Sheffield since, progressing beyond the quarter-finals just once - three years ago.

Ronnie O'Sullivan

Ronnie O'Sullivan's participation in the 2025 World Snooker Championship hasn't even been confirmed, but he remains a front-runner for what would be a record-breaking eight Crucible title.

'The Rocket' has undertaken a near four month sabbatical from the tour on the back of his unusually poor showing at the Championship League, leaving his participation in Sheffield, for now, hanging in the balance.

Few players to have ever graced the green baize could even contemplate a potential title-winning return after such a spell on the sidelines, but as we all know, O'Sullivan is cut from a different cloth to most, and if anybody can do it, it's the great man himself.

Mark Selby

Mark Selby established himself as arguably the most complete player on the planet during a dominant spell between 2014 and 2021, a run of form that yielded four World Snooker Championship titles.

He has since endured off the table difficulties however, even bowing out of the competition in the first round 12 months ago as a consequence of a shock defeat at the hands of qualifier Joe O'Connor.

'The Jester from Leicester' has however bounced back with a bang though, capturing the Championship League, British Open and Welsh Open titles this term, as well as reaching the final of the recent Tour Championship - suggesting he is peaking for a crack at a fifth title at just the right time.

Kyren Wilson

Kyren Wilson has long been touted as a World Snooker Champion, and he heads back to South Yorkshire this spring having now fulfilled his potential.

The Kettering star has gone from strength to strength since seeing off Jak Jones in last year's Crucible showpiece, winning four major ranking titles this season, including the Players Championship in March.

Of course, Wilson will have to avoid falling victim to the infamous Crucible Curse if he is to back up his 2024 heroics, but looks to be in superb condition heading into the Sheffield spectacular on the back of a career-best run of form.

World Snooker Championship Dark Horses

Who are the best outsiders to win the World Snooker Championship?

Ding Junhui

There's an incredibly healthy and dangerous looking Chinese contingent heading to Sheffield this year, with Ding Junhui undoubtedly the most high profile.

The most decorated snooker player in Asian history has won pretty much everything the sport has to offer, except, of course, the World Snooker Championship, and maybe, just maybe, 2025 could be his year.

Zhou Xintong

Zhou Xintong is a bona-fide top 16 player, but for certain reasons finds himself well down the world rankings as we edge ever closer to the start of the 2025 World Snooker Championship.

The Chinese star is already a Triple Crown winner having captured the coveted UK Championship crown in 2021, and looks to be in fine nick as he eyes up a crack at the biggest prize on offer in Sheffield.

He will have to come through qualification if he is to in fact secure a spot at the Crucible, but if he manages to do that, then he will be the name that the seeded players will all desperately hope to avoid.

Si Jiahui

Another Asian superstar making real inroads into his professional career is 2023 World Snooker Championship semi-finalist Si Jiahui.

The Chinese talent was impeccable on his Crucible bow, and, but for an untimely and unexpected collapse against Luca Brecel, would have gone on to secure a spot in the showpiece final.

The 22-year-old has since further enhanced his reputation with runs to the finals of the German Masters and this season's Wuhan Open, proving he is more than capable of causing a stir in Sheffield for a second time.

Jack Lisowski

It remains a mystery as to how Jack Lisowski has yet to land his maiden ranking TV title.

One of the most free-flowing and naturally talented cueists in the game, the 33-year-old has reached six major finals, but subsequently been beaten in each of them.

Surely that run can't continue however, and whilst he remains a big outsider for success in Sheffield, there's absolutely no doubt that he possesses the tools to reign supreme in the biggest competition of the lot.
