Thomas Tuchel's England squad has seen five withdrawals ahead of their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
The Three Lions boss named 27 players for the extended three-week international window which will see England face Spain, Croatia and Czechia twice across the end of September into the start of October.
However, there have already been a flurry of changes in the camp with five players withdrawing from international duty and two individuals being drafted in to fill the void.
Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Tino Livramento and Manchester United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford are the five players to withdrawn from the England squad.
Palmer was a notable omission from England's 26-strong World Cup party in the summer, and the Chelsea talisman has responded to the setback impressively with an excellent start to the new Premier League season under Xabi Alonso.
Despite playing the full 90 minutes in Chelsea's 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Friday, Palmer has sustained a minor muscle injury and a precautionary decision has been made to keep the 23-year-old sidelined during the international window.
Rice has been an ever-present for Arsenal and England across the last 12 months and it's been argued that his excessive workload has been to the detriment of his performances. The Gunners midfielder played through injury at the World Cup and despite featuring in Arsenal's opening five Premier League matches, Rice will not feature for England in their Nations League fixtures.
Livramento missed out on featuring at the World Cup due to a calf injury and the Newcastle full-back had just returned from the issue when he was forced to sit out the 2-1 victory over Hull City at the weekend with a new setback.
Mainoo was included in Tuchel's squad for the World Cup but did not play a single minute for the Three Lions, with Tuchel insisting that wouldn't be the case during the upcoming international window.
His United team-mate Rashford has withdrawn from the squad after he was seen limping when substituted during the 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage. The Red Devils have reportedly been managing a hip issue for Rashford since the forward returned from the World Cup.
The absence of the quintet has presented Morgan Gibbs-White and James Garner with an opportunity to impress in the England camp.
Nottingham Forest's Gibbs-White and Everton's Garner were unlucky not to feature in England's World Cup squad and despite initially being overlooked for the upcoming Nations League matches, both are expected to play a role for the Three Lions.
Gibbs-White made his most recent England appearance in a 3-0 friendly win against Wales in October 2025 and the 26-year-old has started the new season in a similar fashion to how he finished the previous campaign with three goal contributions in his opening five games.
