We appear to be just days away from official confirmation of the long-anticipated all-British heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

That appears to have changed though over the past couple of weeks with promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren revealing that an agreement has actually been struck for a December dust-up.

Hearn and Joshua have lobbied for the fight to take place on British soil -- a stance that at one point looked to have ended any hope of the clash taking place due to Netflix's demands of a start time to facilitate a greater worldwide audience.

But common ground appears to have been found, with Cardiff set to host the superfight in the early hours of Saturday 12th December.

Fight fans would be forgiven for not getting their hopes too high though; after all, we have been here on numerous occasions in the past.

But there is a sense that this time it is different, and there is genuine hope and belief that we could just be weeks away from seeing two of the biggest names in British boxing history trading leather.

According to reports online, official confirmation of Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua could come this week.

With financial terms agreed, a date locked in and a venue sourced -- the Principality Stadium in Cardiff -- the only outstanding issue appears to lie in the scheduled fight time.

Given Netflix are broadcasting the event, the live-streaming giant are keen to maximise a global audience, meaning a standard UK start time of around 22:30 (GMT) is unlikely.

However, discussions between Matchroom and Queensberry, together with Saudi Arabian boxing bankroller Turki Alalshikh have been in full swing over the weekend, with news starting to surface that the pair will undertake their ring walks sometime between 01:00 (GMT) and 02:00 (GMT) on Saturday 12th December.

Hearn played down speculation that an 03:00 (GMT) start was likely at the weekend, claiming it would be earlier than that -- leading many to believe that the one final remaining hurdle has now also been cleared.

Historically, fights of this magnitude are typically announced around three months prior to fight night, and with the scheduled Friday 11th December date now less than 12 weeks away, official confirmation should come in the coming days.

Friday 25th September could be a date to keep an eye on, with many big fights previously being officially announced on a Friday, but don't be surprised to hear a positive update even earlier than then.
