When does World Snooker Championship Qualifying start?

With the penultimate event of the WST campaign - the Tour Championship - in full flow, find out when qualifying for this month's hugely-anticipated World Snooker Championship is set to get underway.

Whilst the world's top 16 are now locked in and guaranteed of a ticket to the Sheffield showpiece, there are another 128 players ready to battle it out for the 16 qualification spots up for grabs at the National Institute of Sport.

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh's 10-8 loss to Barry Hawkins in Manchester on Tuesday means Ding Junhui avoids the gruelling qualification campaign, with Thai star Un-Nooh, who recently reigned supreme at the World Open in China, now having to come through a couple of arduous rounds of qualifying if he is to secure a return to the Crucible.

Un-Nooh is one of a large number of big names set to feature in the qualifiers, with former World Snooker Championship winners Stuart Bingham, Luca Brecel and Ken Doherty also in attendance, along with six-time runner-up Jimmy White and 2024 finalist Jak Jones.

Whilst the draw was announced for the four-round event on Tuesday, the big question now is when does the action actually get underway?

When does World Snooker Championship Qualifying start?

  • Monday 6th April, 2025.

The qualifying event gets underway on Monday 6th April and runs through to Judgment Days on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th April.

The format of the campaign sees players ranked 81 to 112 take on those seeded 113 to 144 in the first round, before the 32 winners then tackle players ranked 49 to 80 in the second round.

Seeds 17 to 48 enter the fray in the third round, facing the 32 second round winners, before the 16 qualifiers are determined following round four.

All-in-all, there are four rounds of qualification, with all players having to come through at least two, and as many as four rounds, of qualifying to secure a sought after spot at the sport's spiritual Crucible home.
