What to watch out for on Arsenal: All or Nothing documentary

After taking us inside the dressing rooms of Manchester City and Tottenham, showing us the workings of two of the game’s greatest managers in Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho, All or Nothing returns, taking us through Arsenal’s 21/22 season.

With the first three episodes of Arsenal: All Or Nothing set to be released on Thursday, we look at five things to watch out for in the upcoming series.

Arteta’s team-talks

A trailer for the third Premier League All or Nothing series showed an impassioned speech from Mikel Arteta, with his back against the wall.

The Gunners got off to a nightmare start last season, losing their first three games. And before a must-win match with Norwich, Arteta spoke about his battle with heart problems as a child, reflecting on a recent defeat to Manchester City and the emotional turmoil he found himself in.

The two-minute talk isn’t telling the players how they need to improve or how poor they’ve been, but that it was the squad, who he considers his family, who managed to raise his spirits, telling them to believe in themselves.

The Emirates dressing room

While one trailer showed an Arteta team-talk, another showed one from a more unlikely source.

Lifelong fan and club photographer Stuart MacFarlane stepped up to address the players before the North London derby with Tottenham.

Speaking as a fan, MacFarlane expressed to the players just how much the fixture meant to the fans, and how they’d be able to see and hear how the crowd react to the first tackle.

Arsenal raced into a 3-0 lead, with Ben White admitting the team talk did have the desired effect.

The fall-out with Aubameyang

December of 2021 saw Arteta publicly admonishing his star striker, dropping him due to disciplinary issues.

The Spaniard revealed that Aubameyang had been removed as captain due, and would not be selected for the following day’s game against West Ham.

Aubameyang was then offloaded to Barcelona in January, and while little was revealed to the public at the time, All or Nothing will hopefully shed more light on what went on.

Arteta’s training methods

A disciple of Pep Guardiola, All or Nothing will give fans the chance to take a closer look at the goings on from London Colney, with a trailer showing Arteta taking to the quirky method of preparing his side for a trip to Anfield by blasting out ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ to his players.

Arteta revealed that he experienced one such atmosphere at Anfield as a player, where the crowd turned the volume up, with the players reacting, and Arteta and his team-mates having no response.

Not wanting his side to be similarly overawed by the noise from the Kop, Arteta played the Liverpool anthem through speakers during a training session.

Missing out on the top four

For much of the second half of the season, Arsenal looked good for a Champions League place before a late collapse, with defeats to Tottenham and Newcastle costing them a seat at European football’s top table.

While few expected Arsenal to take a top-four place at the start of the season, the two defeats in their final three games will have undoubtedly hurt Arteta’s young Gunners, and it will be fascinating to see how Arteta handled the situation.
