What time could Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury start in Cardiff?

After months of protracted negotiations it appears that Cardiff will play host to the heavyweight superfight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Despite reports that both fighters had finally signed contracts to meet inside the ring earlier this year, talks had reached an impasse regarding where the all-British clash would be staged.

Fury, Dana White and Saudi boxing supremo Turki Al-Sheikh are all said to have favoured staging the fight at the iconic Madison Square Garden arena in New York City.

The move was reportedly backed by streaming platform Netflix, with hosting the fight stateside viewed as a way to maximise commercial engagement.

However, both Hearn and Joshua insisted the fight should be held at Wembley Stadium, with the Matchroom Boxing chief threatening to take the issue to court after he claimed that a provision for the fight to be staged in the UK was included in their contract.

The standoff threatened to once again put paid to one of the most highly-anticipated fights in modern boxing but it appears an unlikely breakthrough has been reached in recent days.

Reports suggest that Cardiff could serve as a compromise between the two parties, with the 80,000-capacity Principality Stadium also having the benefit of a retractable roof which could prove crucial given the proposed 20 November fight date.

While British fight fans will no doubt be pleased that two of the UK's greatest boxing sons will square off on home soil, a late start is expected to appease broadcasters and maximise the potential TV audience.

What time will Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury start?

According to a report from The Times, talks are currently ongoing with a view to lift the 10:30pm curfew to allow the fight to be staged in the Welsh capital.

Should that be approved by the Welsh government official confirmation of the fight between Joshua and Fury could come as early as next week.

Turki Al-Sheikh is bankrolling the fight - which is set to be the most lucrative of both fighters' careers - and he has been insistent on an early-morning UK start time since discussions began earlier this year.

As such, it is likely that Joshua vs Fury will start at 02:00 GMT in the early hours of the morning of Saturday, 21 November for fans in the UK and Ireland.

That would make for a Friday evening start time of 21:00 EST in New York and 18:00 PST in California.

Joshua is no stranger to fighting at the home of the Wales national football team.

In 2017 he defended his unified heavyweight titles there with a tenth-round stoppage of Carlos Takam before adding another successful defence against Joseph Parker the following year.
