What next for Johnny Fisher after devastating Dave Allen TKO

Our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt takes a look at Johnny Fisher's potential boxing pathway as he bids to recover from Saturday's devastating TKO loss to fellow domestic heavyweight rival, and long-time friend, Dave Allen.

This past weekend bought a resounding conclusion to Dave Allen and Johnny Fisher's heavyweight rivalry.

'The White Rhino' left no doubt as to who the winner was this time around after delivering a stunning fifth round stoppage win over 'The Romford Bull' at London's Copper Box Arena.

The big question now is where does Johnny Fisher go from here...

The Matchroom represented man is an immensely popular fighter, a big ticket seller and a lovely bloke to boot; there is a lot to like and cheer for about the Romford man.

Both Allen fights have shown a complete and distinct lack of experience. Whilst sharing the gym and ring with some of the top heavyweights is great, fighting under the bright TV lights and in 10 ounce gloves is an entirely different proposition.

Credit to Johnny for taking the immediate rematch after a hard and gruelling night in Riyadh back in December, but Dave Allen was just too savvy on Saturday night, leaving Johnny contemplating his next move.

It's difficult to see right now at exactly which level 'The Romford Bull' will return at and pursue a career at - there is clearly a gulf in quality between the fighters hat he had been beating and that of people like Dave Allen.

There isn't an awful lot in between there, which isn't ideal for him at this moment in time.

Somebody like Sol Dacres could be a potential option for him in the future, but, for me, I really don't see anything wrong with Fisher competing at Southern Area / English level as a very entertaining and popular undercard fighter, who unfortunately isn't ever going to become world heavyweight champion.

Fisher, by his own admission, felt that he possibly fought the wrong sort of fight against Allen in the rematch and it is difficult to see what kind of approach would see him victorious if the pair were to lock-horns for a third time down the line.

I think he needs to temper his expectations a little and campaign in and around that Southern Area and English level, where there would be plenty of really entertaining fights and opponents for him to get his teeth stuck into.

He will always shift tickets, he would be able to fight opponents who are more on his level. Whilst I just mentioned that trilogy match with Allen, truth be told, I don't anticipate seeing that match take place - Allen said that himself on Saturday night.

It's hugely important for Johnny to drop back down a level or two, establish himself as an undercard fighter, truly find his level and get as much boxing experience as he can under his belt.
