The race to join Leicester and Ipswich in the Premier League next season begins on Sunday and West Brom and Southampton will both believe they have what it takes to secure promotion via the playoffs.
Southampton completed a league double over the Baggies in the regular season and they also finished 12 points above them in the standings.
However, the Baggies' fifth-place finish was their best effort since being relegated from the top flight in 2020/21 and in Carlos Coberan they have a tactically astute manager who is sure to have his team well-organised.
Russell Martin’s Southampton favour a possession-based approach and they will be hoping they can starve the Baggies of the ball.
This Championship playoff semi-final first leg will be aired live on Sky Sports Football.
West Brom v Southampton takes place at Hawthorns, West Bromwich, in the West Midlands, with the fixture kicking off at 14:15 on Sunday 12th May.
Southampton won both meetings with West Brom in the regular season, winning 2-1 at St Mary’s in November before a 2-0 success at Hawthorns in February.
That means the Saints have won seven of the last eight meetings between the pair and there hasn’t been a draw in this fixture since 2015, some 11 encounters ago.
Four of the last six rivalries have gone over 2.5 goals, with Southampton scoring at least twice in five of those meetings.
West Brom have lost only three of their last 20 home league matches.
Southampton have won only one of their last five away matches, losing on three occasions.
