The World Boxing Association (WBA) - one of the four major boxing governing bodies alongside the WBC, IBF, and WBO - has a storied history dating back to 1921.

Initially known as the National Boxing Association, it was established to bring order and legitimacy to the sport.

The WBA's primary responsibility is to oversee and regulate professional boxing, sanctioning world championship bouts across 18 weight divisions in the male code and 16 varying weight classes in women's boxing.
