NBA: Golden State Warriors @ Dallas Mavericks preview

There are three games in the NBA on Tuesday and the standout tie is a repeat of last season's Western Conference Finals series as Golden State Warriors make the trip to Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavs were one of the surprise packages in the playoffs last season, as they stunned top seeds Phoenix Suns in seven games in the second round.

The match-up against Golden State proved to be a step too far though, as the Dubs won the Conference finals 4-1 before going on to beat Boston Celtics in six games to claim the championship.

This game will be the first time these two teams have met since that series at the end of last season and both could desperately do with a victory as they look to force their way up the standings in the West.

Warriors starting to hit form

Golden State initially struggled and managed just three wins in their first 10 games, but the champions have recovered and head to Dallas in form, with five victories in their last six games.

The Dubs now have an 11-10 overall record and sit in eighth place in the West, but their road form remains a concern as they have just two wins in 11 attempts away from their Chase Center home.

Those victories have come in their last three road games and a 137-114 win at Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this week does suggest they are getting back to their best.

Mavs remain in a slump

In contrast, Dallas have hit a rough patch and they are seeking to end a four-game losing streak when they come up against Golden State on Tuesday.

The Mavs have had a tricky run of games and three of those defeats have come on the road - at Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks - but they will be eager to put an end to their losing run and move back into the postseason spots.

The Mavericks sit in 11th place in the West, outside of the in-play places, but their home form does remain strong and they will be looking for revenge against the team who ended their championship bid last term.

Dallas have an 8-3 record at the American Airlines Center and their one win over the Warriors in last season’s conference finals did come in their final home game, before Golden State wrapped up a 4-1 series win with a 120-110 victory in Game 5 in San Francisco.

Dallas still overly reliant on Doncic

Luka Doncic almost singlehandedly dragged the Mavs through to the conference finals last season and the Slovenian remains their key man.

Doncic is averaging 33.1 points-per-game, 8.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists this season but his performances have dipped of late, and it is no surprise that Dallas have struggled for wins during that period.

Doncic has only scored more than 27 points in one of his last four games, all of which ended in defeat for his team and, if Dallas are to end their slump on Tuesday, they need a big performance from the MVP hopeful.

Splash Brothers in form for Dubs

Golden State guard Klay Thompson initially struggled at the start of the season after making a comeback from a lengthy layoff last term, but more recently he has been in fine form, particularly from three-point range.

The shooting guard has scored at least 20 points in four of his last five games and has managed at least three three-pointers in all of those, including 10 from 13 attempts in a win at Houston Rockets as the Dubs picked up a first road win of the season.

With Thompson and fellow Splash Brother Steph Curry both in form, Golden State may well be able to claim just a third road win of the season when they make the trip to Dallas on Tuesday.
