NRL: Walters confident of keeping duo

Brisbane coach Kevin Walters believes the Broncos are in a much better position to keep hold of their star players now they are starting to climb the ladder.

The Broncos are pushing to finish in the top eight this season and have shown big signs of improvement when winning five of the opening nine games.

Young duo shine

The Broncos have made huge improvements all over the pitch but the performances of Selwyn Cobbo and Herbie Farnworth have really caught the eye.

It has already kicked off suggestions Brisbane may struggle to keep hold, with Cobbo off-contract at the end of 2023. The Broncos have lost some big players in recent years but Walters believes the tide is turning.

Cobbo and Farnworth could attract big offers from elsewhere but Walters believes chasing silverware with a big club like the Broncos can be just as important.

"Life's not all about money. It does help but it's not the only factor," Walters told reporters. "The environment they're in and creating themselves is a huge one for us and we feel we're on the right pathway as far as that goes.

"It does get tricky to balance your salary cap we're building the club up again and those two are a big part of that."

Sea Eagles clash

The Broncos will be looking to keep the good run going when they face Manly in the Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

"I've thought that (we're a finals team) from the get go; we just need to keep playing well, consistently, like all the good teams do," Walters added.
