Harness Racing: Vultan Tin ready to go again

Reinsman Mitch Miller is expecting another strong performance from Vultan Tin when he contests the $30,000 Hoist Torque Australia Pace over 2536m at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Miller was singing the praises of his charge when he ran a really good race last Friday night. Vultan Tin finished just a half-head behind Double Up in the 2130m Free-For-All at Gloucester Park.

Strong performance

After jumping from barrier nine Vultan Tin looked to be closing in on the win as he held a narrow lead in the latter stage of the race.

However he was overhauled by Double Up who got up to take the win in the final strides. Even so Miller was upbeat after the race and hopes he can back it up again on Friday night.

“He has obviously put in a performance like last week’s run a hundred times before, and I grew a whole new appreciation of him,” said Miller.

“I said to Daniel (trainer Dan Costello) that Vultan Tin felt like he was all out with a lap to go, but every time a horse came near him, he just found another gear. He blew me away … to only go down by a nostril to a horse who got a freakish sort of run. He was enormous.”

Change in tactics

Looking ahead to his latest assignment Miller has suggested there could be a change in tactics. He will again jump from barrier nine and is certainly in great form.

“This week I’ll speak to Daniel regarding tactics. It might be a race in which we might drive him a bit quieter and see how he gets home,” Miller added.
