Viktor Gyökeres Next Club Odds: Sporting CP striker 5/1 to join Arsenal

Viktor Gyökeres has flourished in his debut campaign with Sporting Lisbon and with a host of teams reportedly tracking the forward, we've priced up the Swede's club on the 5th September 2024.

After inspiring Coventry City's charge to the Championship play-off final last term, Gyökeres has established himself as one of Europe's most productive strikers, scoring 41 goals and registering 15 assists in 48 appearances for Sporting in the 2023/24 season.

Gyökeres' agent claimed there were as many as eight Premier League clubs attempting to lure the Swedish international last summer and that figure is likely to heighten off the back of yet another tremendous individual campaign.

It's been well-documented by Portuguese press that Gyökeres' contract includes an £87million release clause which, given the lavish sums that have been spent in recent years, is unlikely to dissuade potential buyers.

Arsenal's forward conundrum means the Gunners are likely to prioritise a new striker, with many viewing the position as the missing piece in Mikel Arteta's jigsaw. Rivals Chelsea are also expected to be in the market for a new number nine, though Nicolas Jackson's recent form has been of encouragement to the Blues hierarchy.

Manchester United have other positions they need to address, while there is uncertainty as to how Newcastle will approach the upcoming window in light of Financial Fair Play concerns.

It's unlikely that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will be in the market for a striker, while Barcelona's sourcing of a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski is restricted by finances.

AC Milan are an interesting option for Gyökeres, especially now his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic has returned to the club as a senior advisor to the owners.

The future of Ruben Amorim could also prove to be a significant factor in where Gyökeres ends up, with the pair forging a fruitful relationship in Lisbon.

Following the news of Jurgen Klopp's pending departure and Xabi Alonso's intention to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, Amorim had been linked with the managerial vacancy at Liverpool, though that position has now been taken up by Arne Slot.

The 39-year-old had also been touted for the West Ham job but Amorim rejected the Hammers after initial talks.

If Amorim remains in Lisbon, it enhances Sporting's prospects of keeping Gyökeres at the José Alvalade for at least another season.
