Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement with AC Milan over the signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
It’s a pivotal transfer window for a Manchester City team who are looking to bounce back from an underwhelming campaign by their standards, trophyless for the first time under Pep Guardiola.
The signing of Tijjani Reijnders appears to be the first piece of business that the club will conduct, as Fabrizio Romano took to ‘X’ to break the news.
Tijjani Reijnders to join Manchester City, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for Dutch midfielder to join Manchester City.
“Deal almost done since yesterday as revealed and now being finalized for package worth around €70m.
“Personal terms sealed days ago and formal steps to follow.”
The Citizens’ 2024/25 performance made it glaringly obvious to everyone that some form of refresh was needed in midfield.
While the club invested heavily in the January transfer window, notably bringing in Nico Gonzalez to fill the void left by Rodri’s injury, it wasn’t enough to close what was already a significant gap on Liverpool, nor were they able to claim any silverware.
With Rodri set for a return, Reijnders nearing a move to the Etihad, and reports suggesting that the club are seeking an attacking midfield player in the market, there's every chance that Guardiola's midfield three looks entirely different to what we've seen in the previous term.
While Reijnders may be the first signing to get over the line, Man City’s transfer activity won’t stop there.
Rayan Cherki is allegedly the club’s primary target for the number 10 role after viewing a deal for Florian Wirtz too expensive.
They’re also in talks with Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, while Tino Livramento remains the ideal successor for Kyle Walker at right-back, though a deal may prove difficult with Newcastle’s unwillingness to sell.
