Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois 2 expected to be announced for July 12

Talks between the two fighters' respective teams have been tasking place for weeks and it's now being reported, by Mike Coppinger, that a breakthrough has been made.

The big hurdle was seemingly that of Joseph Parker, with the former heavyweight champion being declared as the mandatory challenger for Usyk's WBO title on the back of a string of impressive victories over Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole.

The governing body recently ordered the Ukrainian to begin purse bids for a world title showdown, despite Usyk's claims that he was instead pursuing a more lucrative, and high profile, showdown with IBF ruler Dubois in a bid to capture back the title he relinquished ahead of his December rematch with Tyson Fury.

It now appears as though the WBO have agreed to allow the undisputed bout to take precedent, a move which could include a 'step aside' fee for the in-form New Zealander, as well as a guarantee to fight the winner of the Wembley clash.

This will be the second time that Usyk and Dubois will have locked horns with the first encounter in 2023 being marred by controversy after Dubois landed a heavy body shot that dropped Usyk to his knees, before being deemed a low blow by the official.

The Londoner was eventually stopped in the ninth round as Usyk stepped on the gas in Wroclaw, Poland, and immediately vented his frustrations following the fight, adamantly claiming his shot was legal and that he had been 'cheated out of victory'.

"'I didn't think that was a low blow, I thought it landed and that I've been cheated out of victory," the current IBF champion of the world told TNT Sports at the time.

Queensberry promoter Frank Warren was in full agreement with his fighter, and even agreed to launch an appeal against the referee's decision, one that was eventually dismissed.

However, it now appears as though Dubois will finally get his opportunity of redemption, as well as establishing himself as British boxing's first ever four-belt heavyweight ruler, this summer!
