American hope Jessica Pegula will need to produce the tennis of her life to secure the biggest win of her life as she takes on Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final on Saturday night.
Sixth seed Pegula, appearing in a first Grand Slam singles final, was born in New York, and will be hoping to use home advantage to help her make history on Arthur Ashe.
It has been a truly memorable run for the 30-year-old, who broke new ground when she beat world number one Iga Swiatek to reach the final four. Prior to the match, Pegula had lost all six of her major quarter-final matches.
Standing in her way of a memorable US Open triumph is the best hard-court player in the women's game.
Sabalenka is a two-time Australian Open champion and has impressively reached the semi-finals stage or better at seven of her past eight Slams.
The world number two suffered heartbreak in New York 12 months ago as she was beaten in the final by another American in Coco Gauff, so will be desperate to go one better this time around.
