We take a look at the odds for the UEFA Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atalanta on Wednesday 14th August.

Despite Real Madrid's dominance in Europe, the UEFA Super Cup wasn't first played until 1972, and not officially recognised by UEFA until the following year, meaning their legendary teams of the 1950s didn't get the chance to add an extra medal to their collection, and with Los Blancos spending so many years in the European wilderness, it wasn't until 2002 that they won the Super Cup for the first time.

It means the Spanish giants are tied on five wins with Barcelona and Milan, but they'll expect to nudge ahead on Wednesday night, facing Atalanta, where they're 1/2 to win in 90 minutes and 1/4 to lift the trophy.

In what is starting to feel like the second coming of the Galacticos, we may see Kylian Mbappe make his Real Madrid debut, with Vinicius, Jude Bellingham and the rest of the supporting cast in line for starts. That particular triumvirate that will look to lead Real Madrid to a record-extending 16th UEFA Champions League this season are sure to threaten the Atalanta defence, with none of them bigger than 13/8 to score on the night.

With the fixture traditionally coming so soon after pre-season, it's often the case that sides are still finding their way; as such, few sides have actually won the Super Cup in 90 minutes in recent years. In the last 11 Super Cups, only three fixtures have been won in 90 minutes, though all three were Real Madrid.

If the scores are level after 90 minutes, the game will go straight to penalties.

On paper, it might look hard to make a case for Atalanta winning in Warsaw, but it's worth keeping in mind that they resoundingly beat Liverpool in last season's Europa League, doing the same to Bayer Leverkusen in the final, handing the German side their only defeat of the whole campaign.
