A memorable 2022/23 season saw Argentina win the world cup for a third time, Manchester City win the treble and Lionel Messi win an eighth Ballon d'Or award.
While it was Messi who was awarded the Ballon d'Or for his efforts in Argentina's World Cup-winning campaign and Paris Saint-Germain's top-flight triumph, it was Manchester City striker Erling Haaland who clinched top spot in the UEFA Player of the Year rankings.
The Norwegian brute scored a remarkable 52 goals in all competitions for the Citizens as they clinched the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup, becoming just the second side, after rivals Manchester United, to win the treble.
Kevin De Bruyne enjoyed an impressive season for the Manchester-based outfit too, scoring 10 times and recording 31 assists in all competitions, but Belgium's inability to surpass the World Cup group stage likely denied him a spot in the top two.
Alexis Mac Allister secured a move to Liverpool off the back of a brilliant 2022/23 season for club and country, in which he finished 10th in the UEFA Player of the Year rankings, while Croatian duo Luka Modric and Marcelo Brozovic also feature within the top 10.
