UEFA Champions League Records: Top English Goalscorers

Harry Kane became England's leading goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League after the Bayern Munich striker chalked up a four goal haul against Dinamo Zagreb.

With Kane now leading the charts, we look at the other English players who have scored the most goals in UEFA Champions League history.

UEFA Champions League

5. Frank Lampard - 23 goals

Chelsea's all-time record goalscorer, Lampard surprisingly recorded fewer goals than he did assists, though his tally of 23 is enough to rank him fifth among all-time English goalscorers.

The midfielder scored four goals in three separate UEFA Champions League campaigns and Lampard netted three times during Chelsea's maiden title success in 2011/12, including the crucial third goal against Napoli in the last 16 which forced extra time.

4. Paul Scholes - 24 goals

Who can forget that thunderbolt against Barcelona in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League semi-finals?

Longevity is a major factor in Scholes' goal return in the UEFA Champions League, with the influential midfielder netting 24 times in 124 appearances for Manchester United.

Scholes scored six times in 12 appearances during the 2000/01 campaign, five of which came from him operating on the left flank while Nicky Butt partnered Roy Keane in the middle.

3. Raheem Sterling - 27 goals

Sterling's goals were a vital factor in helping Manchester City to establish themselves amongst Europe's elite in the UEFA Champions League.

In 2019, Sterling became only the eighth Englishman to score a UEFA Champions League hat-trick as Pep Guardiola's side thrashed Atalanta 5-1.

Sterling now has another opportunity to add to his tally of goals after completing a loan move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day.

2. Wayne Rooney - 30 goals

As UEFA Champions League debuts go, you would be hard-pressed to find one better than Rooney's.

Manchester United's record goalscorer scored a hat-trick and lay on an assist in his first appearance in the competition against Fenerbahce at Old Trafford.

Rooney would add a further 27 UEFA Champions League goals in his career, including four in the 2007/08 season as Sir Alex Ferguson's side went on to lift the title.

1. Harry Kane - 33 goals

Reaching extraordinary goalscoring heights at Bayern Munich, Kane's exploits with the Bavarian giants have seen him overhaul Rooney as the leading English goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League.

In 2023/24, Kane became the first English player since Terry McDermott in 1981 to top the goal charts in an individual European Cup/UEFA Champions League campaign, netting eight goals as Bayern progressed to the semi-finals.

His record at Tottenham was mightily impressive, scoring 18 goals in 21 appearances from September 2017 to November 2019.
