Trent Alexander-Arnold coy on Liverpool future after 'special' volley

Trent Alexander Arnold sparked wild celebrations after his volley put Liverpool on the verge of winning their 20th top-flight title against Leicester City on Easter Sunday.

An academy graduate making his 350th appearance for his boyhood club, Alexander-Arnold was subbed on to score a late winner that all but confirms Liverpool's Premier League title.

In most circumstances it would be the moment itself dominating the headlines.

But in some circles, Trent Alexander-Arnold's left-footed strike has left more questions than answers.

Have the celebrations shared between the player and fans offered a glimmer of hope that he may yet stay despite reports that he has signed a contract with Real Madrid?

Or is it that this goal was the standout moment in what is sure to be an emotional farewell?

One thing was to be sure, Alexander-Arnold would refuse to be drawn into discussions over his future.

Instead he reflected on his winning goal.

"I have said all season that I am not going to speak on my situation," said Alexander-Arnold. "I am not going to go into the details.

"But days like this are always special. Scoring goals, playing games, winning games, winning titles - they are special moments for me and I am glad to do my part."

New deals for both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk mean that the speculation over Alexander-Arnold's own situation only intensified but the details of the latter will remain strictly between the player, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

His team-mates seemed to try and do their bit to influence his decision towards staying at Anfield.

The match winner was pushed towards the away end by his fellow players to soak up the adulation from supporters after the final whistle.

Arne Slot also heaped praise on to the England international, adding: "My only good answer is to talk about his goal. All the attention should go for that, and all the good things he has done for this club for so many years.

"He is incredible if he sets his mind to it. Today he knows when it matters most, he can bring a bit more and that is something only the top, top, top players have."

Liverpool will now turn their focus to Sunday where three points will wrap up a Premier League title that has seemed a formality for some time.
