Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of suffering Premier League relegation for the first-ever time.
The North London outfit are two points adrift of safety with just four games left to play and, despite winning for the first time since December, injuries suffered by Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke will spark further concern heading into their remaining fixtures.
Spurs have been ravaged by injury across the last few seasons but their current 12-strong list of absentees has arrived at a crucial moment for the club.
The injury picked up by Simons during Saturday's 1-0 win at Molineux will not only see him sidelined for the remainder of the season, but has also ended his hopes of appearing at this summer's World Cup.
In a statement released on Instagram, Simons explained that he was "heartbroken" after receiving the news that he might be ruled out of action until 2027.
Time is running out for Roberto De Zerbi's men to retain their top-flight status for next season and face a difficult trip to Aston Villa this coming Sunday. They are, however, expected to be boosted by the return to fitness for the trio of Pape Sarr, Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie.
James Maddison, who hasn't featured since suffering an ACL injury in pre-season, may also be fit enough to play a part at Villa Park after being named among the substitutes in each of the last two games.
Spurs will then welcome Leeds to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for their penultimate home game of the season in whats looks like a must-win clash on Monday 11th May.
An all-London clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge then follows before the final day of the campaign where David Moyes' Everton will pay a visit to North London.
