Securing UEFA Champions League football would have been the aim for Tottenham at the start of the season, but their season has gone from bad to worse in recent weeks.
The 2-1 defeat at home to struggling Leicester City was Tottenham's eighth league defeat in 11 matches, with the club remaining 15th in the Premier League table.
While injuries to key players have no doubt impacted Ange Postecoglou's team selection for much of the season, his philosophy of attacking football, whatever the circumstances, has come under increased scrutiny.
With eight points separating the club from the relegation zone, Tottenham fans will be wary that a continuation of their poor form could see them looking over their shoulders in the coming weeks.
bet365's Sports and Trading expert Steve Freeth said: "Spurs started the New Year as 500/1 pokes for relegation and while the drop still seems unlikely despite four defeats since the start of January and no wins since beating Southampton in mid-December, that hasn’t stopped a surge of interest with Tottenham now trading at 33/1 for the dreaded drop.
"We've also seen a massive shift in price on them finishing in the bottom half having shortened from 16/1 into 1/3 since November. The last time that happened was in 2008 when they went on to win a major trophy under Juande Ramos and despite all of the criticism, we're only 2/1 about Spurs ending their 17-year wait for another taste of silverware."
The 2007/08 season was the last time Tottenham were ever remotely considered for relegation, with Martin Jol sacked after 10 games with the side in the bottom three.
It took 13 games for Spurs to post a second win that term with Ramos eventually leading Tottenham to Wembley to win the EFL Cup and there's every chance history repeats itself.
