Top goalscorers for France during Didier Deschamps' tenure as manager

We take a look at France's top 10 goalscorers during Didier Deschamps' tenure as manager.

Football

• Olivier Giroud (56)

Not only does Olivier Giroud top the list as France's top scorer in Didier Deschamps' tenure, he also leads the way as country's all-time record goalscorer.

He has scored 56 times under Deschamps, assisting 12 times in this period.

• Kylian Mbappe (48)

Kylian Mbappe will be eyeing up the prospect of taking top spot in this list, with Giroud having announced his international retirement.

With 48 goals under the French international manager, he is just eight goals off levelling Giroud's tally of 56.

• Antoine Griezmann (44)

Antoine Griezmann has enjoyed 137 appearances under Deschamps, more than anyone else on this list.

Scoring 44 times in this period, he will arguably go down as one of France's greatest ever players, offering his services in a range of positions, more recently an attacking midfield role.

• Karim Benzema (22)

It may come as a surprise that Karim Benzema has only scored 22 goals in Deschamps' tenure, though given he retired from international football in 2022, the tally is impressive.

The 2022 Ballon d'Or winner's tally would likely have been significantly higher had he always been available for international selection.

• Paul Pogba (11)

Paul Pogba is the first midfielder to make the list, despite not playing for his national team since 29th March 2022.

Arguably Pogba's most memorable and important goal came in the 2018 World Cup final, where France would go on to win 4-2 against Croatia.

• Blaise Matuidi (9)

Blaise Matuidi netted nine times across 80 appearances under Deschamps, operating in a box-to-box midfield role.

The former French international made his last appearances for France in 2019, before retiring from professional football in 2022.

• Randal Kolo Muani (8)

Randal Kolo Muani, like Mbappe, will be hoping to push his way up the list, aged just 26 with his prime years still to come.

He features regularly in Deschamps' current squad, netting two of his eight goals for France in a 2-1 win over Belgium in the UEFA Nations League in October 2024.

• Dimitri Payet (8)

Dimitri Payet also has eight goals during Deschamps' tenure at France in addition to seven assists.

Much of his club career has also been spent in France, playing for AS Excelsior, Nantes, Saint-Etienne, Lille and Marseille, though he currently plays his football at Vasco da Gama in Brazil.

• Kingsley Coman (8)

Like Kolo Muani and Payet, Kingsley Coman has netted on eight occasions during Deschamps' reign.

Coman has had a decorated club career, winning major honours at Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich, though the winger is yet to win silverware at international level.

• Franck Ribery (6)

Franck Ribery narrowly makes the list, having scored six times in 17 appearances under the management of Deschamps.

Though his goal record may not seem remarkable, Ribery also contributed to 12 assists in this period, meaning he recorded 18 goal involvements in 17 games whilst Deschamps was in charge.
