Top 10 NFL Championship Foods

The NFL Championship and food is almost as synonymous as Tom Brady and NFL Championship rings, so take a look at 10 culinary delights that should be on your menu if you are looking to get into the American spirit this weekend.

What are the top 10 NFL Championship foods?

No.1 - Chicken Wings

Chicken wings are the typical American treat for all major sporting events, especially the NFL Championship. Bone-in or boneless, spicy or mild, whichever tickles your fancy most will more than likely go down a hit amongst friends and family. Buffalo wings tends to be the choice of the vast majority of Americans though, but be careful, if you go for the hotter variety, you may need to make sure you have a cold drink on hand!

No.2 - BBQ (Brisket & Ribs)

Dependent upon which state American Football fans are watching the action unfold from tends to determine their gameday food offerings. But American BBQ is always high on the agenda - irrespective of location. Whether it be low and slow smoked brisket or high-fired BBQ smothered chicken, you'll have your guests salivating with your own BBQ offering. Just wrap up warm, it could get cold out there.

No.3 - Pizza

Pizza is one of the most popular foods on the planet, and for those of you after a somewhat easier dish to serve up on NFL Championship Sunday, the cheesy, doughy favourite could well be the way to go. Add on whichever toppings that tickle your taste buds the most and throw it in the oven. You won't even have to worry about missing a single play - just plate it up, slice and serve!

No.4 - Nachos

Nachos should be a shoe-in at any NFL Championship party, even across the pond here in the UK. Whether it be a big get together or just an avid (and hungry) NFL fan sat by themselves at home, a bowl of nachos should be inevitable. They can be quite messy though ,dependent upon what you load them with, so just have a napkin or two to hand, especially if you go for the full salsa, guacamole, cheese, chilli and jalapenos combination.

No.5 - Sliders / Burgers

Burgers are always a popular game day hit in the United States, but given the size of them, football fans often like to indulge on a slider (a smaller version) alongside numerous other treats. Again, you can load these up however you like - plain and simple, with cheese or a cheese and bacon double - the options are limitless. Just don't go too heavy, you want to save room for dessert.

No.6 - Hot Dogs

Hot dogs are another monster hit, especially bratwursts, which the Americans tend to love. Like burgers, you can take these as they come (on a bun of course), or you can throw some additions on there, such as cheese, ketchup and mustard or even some slow cooked chilli. An NFL Championship dog always tends to be a hit!

No.7 - Potato Chips (& Dips)

Who doesn't love snacking during the three-hour long American Football extravaganza. The NFL Championship can often be an enticing spectacle which makes it difficult to even contemplate leaving your seat. If you want your snacks to be on hand, and of little effort to prepare, then chips and dips is the way to go. There are so many options, flavours and combinations, with the folk across the pond in the 'good ol' U. S. of A.' taking a keen interest in ranch and buffalo chicken dips - both are the perfect accompaniment for any chip (crisp).

No.8 - Chilli

A warm, hearty bowl of chilli will typically be on offer at most American watch-a-longs on Sunday, and there's a solid case to include it on your own list too! Relatively easy to knock up, comprising of beef, a few chopped ingredients and a generous helping of cheese on top, you can either serve it on its own, with rice, on a baked potato or even inside a Yorkshire pudding (thank me later).

No.9 - Loaded Potato Skins

Maybe a slight blast from the past here, but those of you old enough to remember loaded potato skins in their 1990s heyday will remember just how good they were! Still a real focal point on the Stateside NFL Championship dining table, these are probably more synonymous with Thanksgiving than Game Day, but still, loaded with cheese, bacon and sour cream, you could find these to be the surprise hit of Sunday night!

No.10 - Fried Chicken

Either home cooked, pre-made or ordered in from a local takeaway, fried chicken is a hugely popular dining choice for the NFL Championship. Simply serve them on their own with a choice of sauces handily nearby. Nuggets and strips are always popular, or for the more southern American feel, plump for the fully fried chicken portions.

Save room for the cookies & brownies too...

No Game Day is complete without a few sweet offerings. Cookies and chocolate brownies are always popular, whilst there are special mentions for carrot cake and cheesecake, both of which will likely find their way onto a fair share of pre-game food lists this weekend.
