Tony Sims highlights Conor Benn's three key elements to victory over Chris Eubank Jr.

Conor Benn's trusted trainer Tony Sims believes it's imperative that his fighter utilises his greater foot speed, punch-power and in-ring IQ in a bid to negate Chris Eubank's undoubted size advantage in their colossal all-British affair next weekend.

The bitter domestic rivals have vowed to leave no stone unturned in their bid to reign supreme in the third installment of a British boxing rivalry that first caught alight over three decades ago.

Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn shared the ring on two occasions during their heyday, with Eubank securing a stoppage success in an explosive first encounter in Birmingham in 1990, before the pair fought out a far more cautious split draw at Old Trafford, in Manchester, three years later.

Fireworks are certainly expected at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday week however, as the two foes finally settle their differences inside the ring after two years of hype and trading insults.

The naturally bigger fighter, Eubank Jr, will step through the ropes as the betting favourite, and whilst Sims is under no illusion as to how important that additional size and weight could prove in the fight, he is adamant that his man can defy his underdog status if he can make full use of the weapons at his own disposal.

"Look, we know that Chris Eubank has a massive advantage in terms of his size and weight, but Conor (Benn) is incredibly quick, extremely powerful and he possesses an incredibly high IQ inside the ring," Sims told Boxing News.

"It goes under the radar a little bit, but Conor is very, very clever and sometimes it isn't until after fighters have sparred with him that they realise how intelligent he is in there.

Conor is naturally a 147lbs fighter, but he boasts the power of somebody at 160lbs, so it's all about working on tactics for us, perfecting everything we have been looking at for the best part of a year really.

"We have always known that this fight would likely come to fruition, so we have been working away on things behind closed doors for some time now."

He added: "People talk about Chris having to cut weight and what not, but we are the ones at the big disadvantage in this fight, so we are making sure that we get everything in tune and ready to implement correctly on the night."

An undoubtedly key element to victory next weekend will be which of the two fierce rivals can hold their nerve and retain their composure best.

Both have made no secret of their disdain for the other, with many fight fans expecting tensions, especially from Benn's perspective, to boil over come fight night; something Sims disagrees with.

"It's so important to stay calm in the ring, especially in this fight. It's something I have always instilled that in him," he said.

"We have to keep him calm and I truly believe that he will be ready mentally, and physically, to do what he needs to do on the night. I have worked with Conor for 10 years now and I know him inside out. I have no worries from that perspective.

"People may think that his emotions runaway with him, but that's only a split-second that you see that. He is naturally a calm person and he will be firing on all cylinders on the night, but in a calm and collected way."
