Lake Forest attempts to land an unprecedented Lennox Stakes-Sussex Stakes double when he lines up at Glorious Goodwood for the second time this week.
The five-year-old landed the Lennox in some style on the opening day of the meeting and connections have opted to roll the dice again just one day later.
Sean Graham, racing manager to Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy, announced that they were planning to attempt the double at the beginning of week and told the Racing Post that the 20/1 previously on offer for a follow-up victory in the Sussex was of significant value.
Up in class and up in distance, the William Haggas-trained runner is now 16/1 to land Wednesday's feature contest.
With Bow Echo, Gstaad and Opera Ballo all set to take their chance, Graham has admitted that the race will be more tricky, saying: "It's a deeper race today and you've got the three-year-olds in there but I don't think having run yesterday will be too big a negative.
"I think he will go well and was looking at his odds this morning – he was 20-1 in places – and I thought that was too big a price. I thought the favourite was very short at even-money.
"Ever since the idea came up, I think they've been backing him at big prices for this race today," said Graham. "It's not like he's a 5,000-1 shot. He's around a 20-1 chance in a 12-runner race around Goodwood where anything can happen."
Bloom, more famous for his ownership of Brighton & Hove Albion, has been involved in racing for some time and has enjoyed a hugely successful year to date. Santorini Star and Lake Forest have both provided him and partner McAleavy with Group 2 success this year, whilst Venetian Sun's victory in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot was their biggest victory in the UK to date.
Their Sussex Stakes contender has been an extremely shrewd purchase, earning connections an eye-watering £2,807,486 for storming to success in the Golden Eagle at Rosehill in late 2024.
