Tommy Fury has announced that he will make his long-awaited return to boxing in May amidst growing speculation that the half brother of Tyson Fury is set to agree a lucrative deal to tackle fellow social media star KSI in a blockbuster crossover rematch later in the year.
The 25-year-old has undertaken an 18-month hiatus from the sport since edging a tightly contested affair with KSI in Manchester in October 2023.
Fury was set to take on former UFC star Darren Till on a Misfits card earlier this year, before he opted to pull out of the fight after Till was reported to have made it clear that he did not want to abide by professional boxing rules.
Talk of a second showdown with KSI surfaced last month and whilst it appears discussions for that bout remain ongoing, Fury is now set to make his in-ring return on Saturday 9th May - potentially to sharpen up for higher profile bout later this summer.
Posting on his official Instagram channel, Fury confirmed details for his return.
Two years out. One surgery. The hardest battle I’ve faced has been the mental battle of being away from boxing. But I’m back stronger, sharper, and more HUNGARY than ever. May 9th, Budapest… It’s showtime. Let’s go!
Fury possesses an unbeaten 10-0 record, but, for some, was somewhat fortuitous to have avoided a first loss when he edged a tight fight with social media foe KSI in October 2023.
The Mancunian recorded narrow 57-56 victories on all three official scorecards, outcomes that left KSI, real name Olajide Olatunji, exasperated.
"It's a robbery," he said immediately after the fight before storming backstage.
"How many jabs did he land? You didn’t get hardly any shots off. You weren’t landing! Look at your face, look at your eyes. Look at you! I’m the YouTuber, you’re the boxer, you have to win. I understand. It’s all good."
Details on Fury's upcoming opponent are expected to be announced in due course.
