NRL: Tigers chief waits on Sheens review

Wests Tigers have denied Michael Maguire has coached his last game for the club but changes will be made following a disappointing start to the season.

The Tigers are priced at 14/1 to make the top eight and play finals this season, but after winning just three games from 12 so far that looks unlikely.

Mid-season review

The club have confirmed that footy boss Tim Sheens is conducting a mid-season review to try and get to the bottom of what the problem is.

That has kicked off some reports that Maguire is facing the axe and could have coached his last game for the club. Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis says that is not the case but does accept some tough decisions could have to be made.

"As of today, 31st of May 2022, Michael Maguire is the contracted coach of the Wests Tigers, there is nothing before me to indicate that that is going to change,” he told SEN radio.

"At the moment, we are somewhat disappointed where we sit on the table and do we need to make some changes? I suspect we do. We'll just leave it to the great man (Sheens) to come back and report to us and we'll see what he comes back with."

Wait and see

Hagipantelis says the time is right to do the review as the Tigers take a break for the bye and they will take the required action when Sheens presents his findings.

"He will come back to the board at the appropriate time with some recommendations and he will let us know what, if anything, needs to be done to ensure this club gets back on track,” he added.
