Three wingers Newcastle United could sign in the summer transfer window

Having qualified for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, Newcastle will be looking to strengthen their side to have the best chance of competing with Europe's elite.

Despite Jacob Murphy's impressive return last season, notching eight goals and 12 assists in 35 Premier League appearances, a winger is high on Newcastle United's shopping list in this summer window.

According to David Ornstein from The Athletic, Newcastle have already seen a £45 million bid rejected for Nottingham Forest's 23 year old Swedish winger Anthony Elanga.

It is reported that Newcastle will now decide whether to improve their bid for Elanga, who registered six goals and 12 assists for Forest last season, or move on to other targets.

We take a look at other winger alternatives who could be preferred to Elanga should they opt to withdraw their interest.

Premier League 2025/26

Antonio Nusa

20 year old Norwegian versatile forward, Antonio Nusa is a player that has been linked to the Magpies.

Despite only joining German side RB Leipzig last summer for a reported fee of £18 million plus £7 million in add ons, Nusa would present a market opportunity for Newcastle.

Some outlets claim he is available for just £38 million. This would present a much more affordable deal for Eddie Howe's men, especially when you consider that Nusa is three years younger than the Swedish Elanga.

Playing mostly off the right, but also being adept off the left and through the centre, Nusa contributed five goals and eight assists for Leipzig in all competitions last season.

He has also become a key member of Norway's new "Golden Generation" of young players coming through, alongside talents like Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard and Oscar Bobb.

Nusa has played 15 times for Norway and has a goal and an assist in two 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches so far.

Karim Adeyemi

Another name on Newcastle's shortlist is 23 year old German forward, Karim Adeyemi.

Having joined Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg for a reported £25 million back in 2022, Adeyemi has impressed, scoring 26 goals and registering 17 assists in his three seasons at the Bundesliga side.

Adeyemi can play on either wing or as a centre forward, something which could appeal to the Magpies with the departure of deputy striker Callum Wilson and question marks looming over the future of Aleksander Isak.

Dortmund will likely charge a premium on any sale for Adeyemi, having sold Donyell Malen to Aston Villa in January, with a reported fee in the region of £43 million being quoted.

The pace and finishing ability of Adeyemi will be of interest to Newcastle United, with a clear profile of target being identified between the four options.

Johan Bakayoko

The final name on the Magpies shortlist is reported to be PSV Eindhoven's 20 year old Belgian right winger Johan Bakayoko.

The 18-time capped international is reportedly available for around £42.5 million and has interest from a host of elite clubs from all over Europe.

With 20 UEFA Champions League appearances, Bakayoko would also add some top level European experience to a side heading into only their second UEFA Champions League season in 20 years.

Since his move to the Eredivisie, he has registered an impressive 41 goals and assists in just 89 matches, to add to his 36 goals and assists in 58 games in the Dutch second tier.
