Former world champion Charlie Edwards will challenge Thomas Essomba for his European bantamweight title on Channel 5 this Friday night and an intriguing fight with a family twist - here's everything you need to know ahead of the bout.
Thomas Essomba v Charlie Edwards will top Wasserman Boxing's latest fight card on Friday 27th September 2024.
The event itself is scheduled to get underway at around 19:00 (BST), with Thomas Essomba v Charlie Edwards expected to take to the ring for their bout at around 22:05 (BST), dependent upon the length of the undercard.
Thomas Essomba v Charlie Edwards will take place at London's iconic York Hall venue, with a sell-out crowd expected to descend upon the famous venue in Bethnal Green.
Some of the sport's biggest superstars have fought there in the past, including the likes of Lennox Lewis, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, whilst recently crowned IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois has also been in action at York Hall.
Thomas Essomba v Charlie Edwards will be screened live on terrestrial television, with Channel 5 picking up the rights for the Wasserman bout.
Coverage of the main event will get underway from 22:00 (BST) with the fight itself expected to get underway around 30 minutes later.
Thomas Essomba will make the second defence of his European bantamweight title in the capital after capturing it courtesy of a points success over Alessio Lorusso in May last year.
Since then, the British fighter narrowly retained his strap in a split-decision victory over Elie Konki back in February, and will be desperate to retain the title in what appears to be the biggest task of his professional career to date against former WBC flyweight king, Charlie Edwards.
Indeed he is, and that adds further intrigue to the showdown given Charlie Edwards and Sunny are brothers.
There has been plenty of speculation in recent years that Sunny and Charlie would be keen to face each other on the professional stage, although to date, that showdown has failed to materialise.
However, could tensions boil over on Friday night and edge us ever closer to a Sunny Edwards v Charlie Edwards showdown? Only time will tell.
