The Debate: Who will win Super Bowl LIX?

So, just two remain in the hunt for the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Representing the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs are heading to their fifth Super Bowl in six years after finding a way past the Buffalo Bills once more, whilst the other Conference Championship clash saw the Philadelphia Eagles comprehensively defeat NFC East rivals the Washington Commanders.

There are plenty of fascinating storylines as we approach the final stretch of the NFL season, not least the Chiefs' pursuit of an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl success.

Without further ado, members of the bet365 Sports & Betting News team debate who they think will win Super Bowl LIX.

‘Three-peat’ Kansas City Chiefs primed for historic Super Bowl success, writes Mark Mothershaw

Kansas City Chiefs may not be the overwhelming favourites they have been in previous years to reign supreme at Super Bowl LIX, but we should all know never to bet against Andy Reid and his dominant dynasty.

Spearheaded by the generational talent, Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs are on a mission to further cement their names deeper into the NFL history books by becoming the first side to reel off three successive Super Bowl triumphs.

It’s a feat that few could have even dared to imagine when Mahomes first held aloft the iconic Vince Lombardi inside Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium back in 2020, having helped end the franchise’s painful 50-year-long wait for NFL glory.

That said, maybe this potential Super Bowl hat-trick shouldn’t be too unexpected, despite the obvious unprecedented nature of it.

After all, within minutes of leading his charges to an 11-point success over the San Francisco 49ers in South Florida five years ago, Mahomes signalled his intent of further cementing his legacy by becoming the first QB to lead a team to an NFL three-peat…

“Hey, we’re not done dog, I want three,” Mahomes told DT Chris Jones. “No one’s ever got three - I want back-to-back-to-back.”

There’s no doubt that Mahomes is cut from a different cloth to most.

Those words spoken in the immediate aftermath of his maiden Super Bowl success tell you everything about his, for me, unrivalled mind-set, and truth be told, I am just finding it nigh-on impossible to look beyond his / their quest for a fourth Super Bowl ring in 2025.

Yes, we’ve seen other great sides come up just short in their three-peat attempts, most notably the 49ers in the late 80s and the star-studded Cowboys in the early-to-mid 90s, but I’ve just got a feeling that this current Chiefs group, ushered by Mahomes, will find a way to buck that trend.

The Texan is so good at leading his side to victories in remarkably tight games; he just manages to find a way to excel when it appears as though the chips are down.

That said, this is far from a one-man show!

Every single player representing Kansas will have to play their role in the one final game standing between them and history, none more so than the evergreen tight end Travis Kelce and the indispensable defensive tackle Chris Jones.

It’s a truly devastating three-man core which has continued to, and will continue to, stand the test of time.

The Chiefs haven’t been anywhere near their best for long parts of the season, but here they stand once again, in another Super Bowl.

Believe me, with everything on the line, this is when we will see them at their very best.

Sunday 9th February will be the day that this swashbuckling Kansas City Chiefs side, led by the outstanding Andy Reid, establish themselves as arguably the greatest of all-time!

Philadelphia Eagles and Saquon Barkley can bulldoze their way to Super Bowl glory, writes Jaquob Crooke

Philadelphia Eagles were the favourites prior to their Conference Championships, although it seemed inevitable they would inherit the underdog tag upon conclusion of the AFC showdown between the Bills and the Chiefs.

Let's be frank, it was always going require a herculean effort from the Commanders to topple their NFC East rivals.

Yes, Washington thoroughly exposed the defensive frailties of Detroit, obliterating the NFC's No.1 seed with a stunning offensive show, but the Eagles have been an indomitable force at Lincoln Financial Field and had the measure of the Commanders.

During the regular season, the Eagles gave up the fewest yards per game and ranked second in points allowed per game. This defence is unforgiving, and they proved in the victory over the Los Angeles Rams that they thrive on making crucial stops at decisive moments.

Jalen Carter, Milton Williams, Josh Sweat and Nolan Smith Jr. are all capable of getting to the quarterback and it's an unwelcome sight if you're Patrick Mahomes. They're utterly relentless, and that's taxing on their opponents.

Insert the fabled "defences win you titles" line.

The Eagles have the running game to conquer all with Saquon Barkley in domineering form. He was a vital factor in prising open a rush-deficient Commanders defence and his explosiveness makes him a sure bet to influence proceedings in the Super Bowl.

Philadelphia's run playbook is also aided by the mobility of Hurts at quarterback. There is no doubting Hurts' immense talent, but the Eagles' passing game had often felt disjointed this campaign, and the jury is still out on whether the two-time Pro Bowl star can lead Philly to glory.

His numbers, especially when under pressure, have not been pretty and the Eagles averaged a postseason low of 92.5 passing yards prior to the Conference Championship game, but then everything seemed to click against Washington.

With an offensive line consisting of Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson and Lane Johnson - arguably the best O-Line in the league - there's always an underlying feeling that the Eagles' passing game has all of the ingredients to flourish and if their playmakers in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith can come to the fore, Philadelphia have the talent to put up big numbers whoever they oppose.

Philadelphia asked more of Hurts against Washington and he duly delivered. The Eagles' offense was largely unstoppable, capitalising on a series of Commanders mistakes. Ultimately, they didn't need the passing game to compliment their rushing prowess to topple their opponents, but it was a major statement to the Chiefs that Hurts and Co. are a formidable dual threat.

The Eagles still have the battle scars from the events at the State Farm Stadium in February 2023. They will be desperate to go one better on this occasion, and they have the experience and tenacity to haul themselves over the line.
