England's battle to regain the urn from Australia commences in Perth at the end of the November and the five-match series will conclude in Sydney at the start of January.

Australia are once again the favourites to retain the Ashes, while England are 5/2 to claim their first series success Down Under since Andrew Strauss skippered them to a 3-1 victory in 2011.

While England's Test side have demonstrated plenty of promise under Brendon McCullum, series defeats away in India and Pakistan have highlighted the frailties in the camp during a transitional period.

Australia, on the other hand, have looked imperious in the Test format, claiming a 3-1 series win in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India to start 2025.

Irrespective of who may triumph, this year's series has got plenty to live up to if it is to match the drama of the previous Ashes.

The Aussies prevailed in one of the greatest Ashes Tests at Edgbaston before controversy marred the second Test at Lord's when Jonny Bairstow was ungentlemanly stumped by Alex Carey and the visitors went on to win by 43 runs.

Buoyed by the ferocity of Mark Wood's bowling, England initiated their fightback with a three-wicket victory at Headingley, but their hopes of going on to complete a famous Ashes comeback were halted by the weather in Manchester as the fourth Test was washed out.

England still managed to salvage a series draw in the fifth and final Test as Stuart Broad claimed two wickets in his final match before retiring.
