The season's final Grand Slam, the US Open, is fast approaching and Racing Post's Liam Flin has selected his three best outright bets for the women's competition, which gets underway in New York on Monday 26th August.
There have been different winners of the Women's US Open in each of the last five years and Emma Raducanu's triumph as a qualifier in 2021 demonstrated anything is possible at Flushing Meadows.
And it is fair to say the WTA tour has been pretty unpredictable itself this year with Aryna Sabalenka winning the Australian Open, Iga Swiatek going the distance at the French Open and Barbora Krejcikova prevailing at Wimbledon.
So as the best in the business prepare to descend on New York, here is a look at how the 2024 US Open Women could unfold.
Aryna Sabalenka to win US Open Women - 9/4
The competitive nature of women's tennis this year makes it tempting to look beyond the obvious but Sabalenka is nonetheless the prime pick at 9/4 to win the title.
Sabalenka already has a major hard-court title under her belt this season, having won the Australian Open at the start of the year.
And while it took her some time to win her second event of 2024, she did so recently at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, recording wins over Jessica Pegula, Iga Swiatek and Liudmila Samsonova en route.
That title followed a semi-final run at the Washington Citi Open as well as a quarter-final appearance at the WTA Toronto and she is hitting form at the perfect time.
Last season, Sabalenka was runner-up at the US Open, while she also made the semi-finals in 2021 and 2022, and she looks primed to go a step further this season.
Jessica Pegula to win US Open Women - 11/1
Americans are also worth monitoring in the betting for the US Open and Jessica Pegula looks a nice price at 11/1.
Pegula has never before gone beyond the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam but she has reached that stage of the hard-court Grand Slams on four separate occasions.
If she is going to win her first major title, it is more likely to be on her own turf in front of supportive crowds and she has already been making the most of the North American hard-court season.
Earlier in August, Pegula claimed the WTA Toronto title on the hard courts before carving a path to another final - the WTA Cincinnati - in which she lost to Sabalenka.
With reasons to doubt some of the market leaders, Pegula could be a fine outside pick for punters heading into this year's US Open Women.
Jessica Pegula to win first quarter at US Open Women - 10/3
For those reluctant to back Pegula to go all the way, another way to support her is by backing her to win her quarter at 10/3.
The obvious threat in Pegula's segment is top seed Swiatek but the Pole is typically underwhelming at the hard-court majors.
Indeed she has failed to go beyond the fourth round in four of her five US Open Women campaigns - the only exception was when she won the title in 2022.
A run to the semi-finals in Cincy was promising but Swiatek has not played a lot of tennis since Wimbledon and Pegula should pip her to the post.
Mirra Andreeva will also feel she has a shot at 11/2 but she is still raw, while Raducanua has not done a lot at Flushing Meadows since her 2021 triumph so Pegula is the pick in the first quarter.
