Shanghai Masters Favourites

Reigning Australian Open and US Open champion Jannik Sinner has picked up six titles in 2024 and he is expected to put in another bold showing for glory, although he has his work cut out in this stacked field.

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is expected to be prominent in the betting, as is German Alexander Zverev, who lost to Daniil Medvedev in the 2019 final.

Novak Djokovic has won this event a record four times and he will be eager to add a fifth title to his CV, while 2023 finalist Rublev will be looking to get over the line this time.

Hurkacz, Alex de Minaur, Sebastian Korda and Nuno Borges would have been seeded, but the quartet have pulled out through injury.

Cameron Norrie, Dusan Lajovic, Fabian Marozsan, Thiago Monteiro, Sebastian Ofner and Jan-Lennard Struff have also withdrawn prior to the start of the tournament.

Shanghai Masters History

The Shanghai Masters is one of the nine ATP Tour Masters 1000 events, and is the only one not played in Europe or North America.

The inaugural edition took place in 2009 when Nikolay Davydenko overcame Rafael Nadal.

Shanghai Masters Past Winners

As mentioned, Davydenko won the first tournament 15 years ago when beating Nadal, who also lost in the 2017 final and has never won this event.

Serbian ace Djokovic defeated Borna Coric in 2018 to land a record fourth title, adding to his successes from 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Britain's Andy Murray is a three-time winner, going back-to-back in 2010 and 2011 before coming out on top again in 2016.

Switzerland's Roger Federer is the only other multiple champion, lifting the trophy in 2014 and 2017, while Davydenko, Daniil Medvedev and Hurkacz have each triumphed once.

In the doubles, seventh seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos defeated Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden to take their first title in Shanghai last year.

The French pair of Julien Benneteau and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga landed the first doubles crown in 2009, beating Polish duo Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.

Brazilian Marcelo Melo has won the doubles a record three times, partnering Ivan Dodig in 2013, Raven Klaasen in 2015 and Lukasz Kubot in 2018.
