Novak Djokovic heads to Flushing Meadows as the defending champion and despite what had been a disappointing year, he should be full of confidence after finally winning the gold medal at the Olympics.
Djokovic begins his quest for a fifth US Open title against Moldovan veteran Radu Albot, who has been as high as 39 in the world rankings but now finds himself at 138.
Radu Albot v Novak Djokovic will be available to watch via bet365's Sports Live Streaming platform, while it is also live on Sky Sports in the UK on their Sky Sports +, Main Event and Tennis channels.
Radu Albot v Novak Djokovic is set to get underway at 01:30 BST on Tuesday 27th August at Flushing Meadows, New York.
Despite their advancing ages of 34 and 37, Albot and Djokovic have never played each other on the ATP Tour so Tuesday's first-round clash will be their first meeting.
Djokovic has amassed a record-equalling 24 Grand Slam titles, having also reached 37 finals, although he had been enduring a relatively fallow year in 2024 until his success at the Olympics.
The Serbian could potentially end this year without a Grand Slam title for only the second time since 2010 and first since 2017, having won three last year - including the US Open - as well as reaching the final of the other.
While Djokovic is a regular at the business end of major tournaments, Albot most certainly is not as he has passed the first round on only 11 occasions in 29 previous main draw Slam appearances.
Only once has Albot progressed beyond the first round at the US Open, reaching the third round in 2017 to equal his best run at a major, but he has lost his first match at Flushing Meadows in eight of his last nine entries, while he didn't make it past qualifying in 2022.
The Moldovan has come through qualifying to play in the 2024 US Open, beating Javier Barranco Cosano, Luca Van Assche and Shintaro Mochizuki to make the main draw.
Albot's sole career singles title came on US hard courts at the Delray Beach Open in 2019.
