Qinwen Zheng vs Emma Raducanu Tips, Predictions and Bet Builder

After a lengthy spell in the doldrums, Emma Raducanu has returned to form at Queen's Club to reach the quarter-finals and her journey may not be done just yet.

The British favourite rose to stardom by winning the US Open in 2021 but her career has stalled somewhat since, which is why she finds herself down at world number 37.

However, the 22-year-old still has time on her side and straight-sets wins over Cristina Bucsa and Rebecca Sramkova have earned her a shot at top seed Qinwen Zheng.

A clash with the world number five looks a daunting proposition, especially on the back of the Chinese ace making the quarter-finals of the French Open.

But Zheng is at her most vulnerable on grass and that was evident in her second-round clash with McCartney Kessler, who took the contest to a deciding set.

The Chinese player has been beaten in the first round at Wimbledon in each of the last two years and it may be that this surface favours Raducanu best.

The Brit has been broken only twice in her two tournament wins and last season's run to the last-16 at SW19 shows what she is capable of when in the groove.

Qinwen Zheng vs Emma Raducanu Prediction

Best Bet: Emma Raducanu to win 2-0 @ 13/8

Raducanu is playing some of the best tennis she has for a long time and it could be that she has been saving herself for this grass-court campaign, with home events at Queen's and Wimbledon providing the motivation.

This surface clearly suits her style well and she may simply relish conditions more than Zheng, who has won only four of her last 13 matches on grass.

The Chinese player is one of the best in the world, but a hard court and clay is where she has enjoyed her success and the manner of her three-set win over Kessler last time out suggests it was a struggle.

Zheng is one of the fittest players on the WTA Tour, so she may be favoured if the contest goes the distance.

Therefore, it could be worth backing Raducanu to record another straight-sets win, just as she has done in the previous two rounds against Bucsa and Sramkova.

The Brit was barely tested in those victories, spending a total time of just two hours and 22 minutes on court, and she should be brimming with belief ahead of this quarter-final challenge.

Aaron Ashley says:

Recent evidence suggests Raducanu is slowly but surely starting to find the form that enabled her to win the US Open and she has plenty of reasons to be optimistic about this match with Zheng, who has a lack of grass-court experience.

Qinwen Zheng vs Emma Raducanu Bet Builder Tip

  • Emma Raducanu to win

  • Qinwen Zheng to serve 10+ aces

  • Qinwen Zheng to make 5+ double faults

    Pays 6/1

Despite being 32 places below Zheng in the world rankings, this surface evens things out and Raducanu, on the back of two routine victories and in front of her home crowd, warrants favouritism.

However, Zheng is blessed with a powerful serve and she could contribute with plenty of aces. The tournament top seed struck 10 in her second-round win over Kessler, meaning she has racked up 48 aces across her last four grass-court matches.

That can lead to unforced errors and double faults, however, and Zheng made five against Kessler. Her last four grass-court contests have featured a total of 20 double faults from her.

Aaron Ashley adds:

This makes for an intriguing match-up and everything looks in place for Raducanu to triumph. Zheng is still learning the art of playing on grass and her lofty ranking is based on her form on a hard court and on clay.

Tactics and Form

If Raducanu can nullify the power behind Zheng’s serve then she is fancied to run out a convincing winner, although that is easier said than done and the Chinese player should compile plenty of aces on a surface that is accustomed to.

Zheng has so far been unable to translate her best form on the grass, winning only two of her eight grass-court matches since 2022, and that inexperience gives Raducanu the edge.

The Brit loves playing on grass and even more so in home conditions, highlighted by her run to the fourth round at Wimbledon last year.
