World number one Novak Djokovic gets his French Open title defence underway against home favourite Pierre-Hugues Herbert and the Serbian is unlikely to be posed too many problems.
Djokovic has had poor preparation for Paris but the 24-time Grand Slam champion remains one of the tournament favourites in the men’s draw and this should be a routine win for him.
The three-time French Open winner faces world number 140 Herbert, who is more renowned for his doubles heroics and didn’t play in the main draw of a single Grand Slam last season.
The 33-year-old Frenchman has never gone beyond the third round of a major, so this looks a difficult test for him against one of the world’s elite.

Novak Djokovic v Pierre-Hugues Herbert is expected to start at approximately 11:00 BST on Tuesday 28th May 2024, although that is subject to change. The match will be played on Court Philippe Chatrier at Roland Garros, Paris.
This is a second career meeting between these players and Djokovic won 7-6 6-3 in the only previous encounter in ATP Paris in 2013.
Herbert has lost seven of his last eight matches, with five of those defeats coming in straight sets, and that could spell trouble for him.
Each of Djokovic’s last six wins have come in straight sets.
Djokovic has failed to make the French Open quarter-finals only once in the last 18 years, with him taking the title in two of the last three seasons.
Herbert’s last four appearances in the main draw of a Grand Slam have ended in the opening round.
