Tennis Men's Olympics: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Jannik Sinner and Andy Murray have both had to withdraw from the men's singles tennis tournament at the Olympics this year but there is still a star-studded line-up set to descend on France and Racing Post's Liam Flin has picked out three players who could shine.

The men's singles tennis event at these Olympics will feature 64 players and will take place on the clay courts of Paris at the same venue where the season's second Grand Slam, the French Open, is held.

Clay-court specialists should therefore be on the radar of punters and there are some big names in contention - from 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic to 'King of Clay' Rafael Nadal.

Tennis Men's Olympics betting tips and predictions

Carlos Alcaraz to win gold - 8/11

Ignoring the obvious is a cardinal sin in betting and Carlos Alcaraz is worthy favourite for gold at 8/11.

The 21-year-old is enjoying an exceptional season on the ATP tour, winning 33 of his 39 matches, and earlier this month he claimed the fourth Grand Slam title of his career at Wimbledon.

Once again the Spaniard took down veteran Djokovic in the final and he is oozing confidence right now.

Djokovic did well to make the final at the All England Club but he only had knee surgery in June and looks like a fading force.

With that in mind and the fact Sinner has had to pull out with tonsillitis, the stage could well be set for another Alcaraz triumph.

The youngster grew up playing and training on the slower surface and captured his maiden French Open title on these courts as recently as June.

Casper Ruud to win gold - 14/1

For those averse to backing a short-priced favourite like Alcaraz, Casper Ruud could be another fine pick.

Ruud was unimpressive at Wimbledon earlier this month, crashing out in the second round against Fabio Fognini.

But the Norwegian ace often saves his best performances for the clay courts - especially those in Paris.

Ruud was a finalist in the French Open in both 2022 and 2023 and this year he reached the semi-finals after capturing the Geneva Open title.

The draw has been relatively kind to him with Daniil Medvedev, who is traditionally more of a hard-court player, the fiercest opponent in his quarter.

Arthur Fils to win gold - 66/1

Looking even further down the betting, Arthur Fils could give punters a run for their money at 66/1.

Fils will be one of the players hoping to capitalise on the lack of fitness of veterans Djokovic and Nadal, who are both stationed in his quarter.

But once you get past the draw, Fils looks like a pretty smart play.

He enjoyed a run to the last 16 at Wimbledon recently, beating seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz in the process, and he won the Hamburg European Open earlier this month, defeating top seed and home favourite Alexander Zverev in the final.

Fils exited the French Open in the first round this year but the home support in Paris will be more noticeable this time around given this is an Olympic event and he could impress for his country with a decent run.
