Spain are fielding their dream partnership in the men’s doubles tennis tournament with Rafael Nadal hoping to roll back the years in Paris playing alongside Carlos Alcaraz, less than a month after the world number three successfully defended his Wimbledon title.
However, they have been handed a tough-looking first round match against the Argentina pair of Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez, who have won five clay tournaments together on the APT circuit, so we could be in for a thriller.
Maximo Gonzalez & Andres Molteni v Carlos Alcaraz & Rafael Nadal should be available to watch on the BBC iPlayer, Eurosport and Discovery Plus.
Maximo Gonzalez & Andres Molteni v Carlos Alcaraz & Rafael Nadal will start at approximately 18:00 BST on Saturday 27 July on Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris.
This is the first time Alcaraz and Nadal have played doubles together.
Nadal won the French Open an incredible 14 times at this venue, while Alcaraz also has happy memories here having claimed the title for the first time in May.
Alcaraz is third in the ATP singles rankings and has won 15 tournaments on his own.
Gonzalez and Molteni are 12th in the ATP’s Doubles Race, which takes in results from this season.
They have been playing together for two years and have won five clay tournaments, twice in Cordoba, in their home country Argentina and Barcelona and once in Rio de Janeiro.
