Katie Boulter v Tatjana Maria: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Katie Boulter is the highest ranked British player in the women’s Wimbledon draw and the 32nd seed will be hoping to make a strong start to her home Grand Slam with victory over Germany’s Tatjana Maria.

Boulter arrives at the All England Club in high spirits following a successful title defence in Nottingham, where she defeated Emma Raducanu and Karolina Pliskova on her way to a third WTA Tour title.

The next step will be to produce the same level of performance in Grand Slam competition as she has yet to go beyond the third round of a major and in Maria she meets a former Wimbledon semi-finalist.

The German veteran, enjoying something of a resurgence at 36 years of age, made the final four at SW19 two years ago and she can’t be taken for granted given she did so by claiming two seeded scalps in Maria Sakkari and Jelena Ostapenko.

Despite that, Boulter, in the form of her life, is 1/5 to advance to the second round and that could set up an all-British affair with Harriet Dart, who must first navigate her way past Chinese qualifier Zhuoxuan Bai.

Maria is 7/2 to spring the surprise and she will be hoping to emulate her 2022 heroics, having pushed third seed Ons Jabeur to three sets in that last-four battle.

Katie Boulter v Tatjana Maria betting tips and predictions

Katie Boulter to win & under 20.5 games - 11/10

While Maria can’t be taken for granted, the German is now at the back end of her career while Boulter is in peak condition and appears to be improving all the time.

Boulter won a grass-court title in Nottingham for the second year in a row last month and she defeated her compatriot Raducanu and Pliskova, which looks to be seriously strong form.

Maria, meanwhile, has not been performing to the same level as she was when making the Wimbledon semi-finals two years ago and she has lost three of her last four matches.

That includes a 6-1 6-3 defeat to Bulgarian world number 48 Viktoriya Tomova in Bad Homburg last time out and serious improvement is required if she is to live with Boulter, who has won both previous meetings between the pair.

With that in mind, backing Boulter to win under 20.5 games - which means a straight-sets success is almost certainly required - could be the way for punters to profit.

Four of Boulter’s last six victories have been recorded in straight sets and she has lost only two of her last 12 completed matches on the grass.

Boulter won 7-6 6-2 in her opening-round showdown with Australia’s Daria Saville last year, before losing to 2022 champion Elena Rybakina in the third round, and the 27-year-old looks to have taken her game to even greater heights this time around.

Katie Boulter 5+ double faults - 4/7

Boulter is armed with a pretty big serve, something she looks to utilise with plenty of aces, but that can also lead to a handful of double faults.

Boulter will be looking to utilise that weapon against Maria but in her Eastbourne quarter-final defeat to Jasmine Paolini last time out she served only five aces yet 10 double faults.

That means the British player has had five or more double faults in five of her last six matches and there may be a few more to follow against the experienced Maria.

When these two met on the grass in Nottingham two years ago, a contest Boulter won 4-6 6-1 6-4, she had four double faults but she has added speed to her serve since, so expect that number to go up.

That is available to back at 4/7 and the more adventurous punter may want to go with her to have eight or more at 12/5 which did happen in her most reach encounter with Paolini.
