Jannik Sinner v Alexander Zverev: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The hard-court season is in full swing and Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev both have their sights set on reaching the final of the Cincinnati Masters.

The ATP 1000 Masters event in the USA has attracted some big names and this semi-final pits the top seed against the third seed.

Sinner has had a pretty straightforward run in this competition so far, opening with a 6-4 7-5 win over home talent Alex Michelsen before a walkover against Jordan Thompson.

The Italian dropped the opening set in his quarter-final against Andrey Rublev but went on to win 4-6 7-5 6-4 and he looks in good shape.

As for Zverev, he has been made to work for his spot in the last four, having been taken to a tiebreak in his 7-5 7-6 win over Pablo Carreno Busta in the last 16 before a three-set win over Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals.

The winner of this tie will take on either Holger Rune or Frances Tiafoe in the final.

Jannik Sinner v Alexander Zverev betting tips and predictions

Jannik Sinner to win 2-1 - 13/5

It has been a transformative season for the career of Jannik Sinner, who has won 44 of his 49 matches on the ATP tour this year, claiming four titles in the process.

Three of those four trophy wins came on hard courts with Sinner claiming his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January before prevailing in Rotterdam and Miami.

And the return to the hard courts will be welcomed by the Italian, who did not have the best time of it on grass in 2024.

He warmed up for this event with a run to the quarter-finals of the ATP Montreal and he has barely broken a sweat in Cincinnati so far.

After a straightforward win over Michelsen, he was handed a walkover win against Thompson and overcame an early scare to sink Rublev.

He should therefore be pretty sharp going into this semi-final whereas Zverev could be feeling a little more fatigued.

The German conceded 11 games against Carreno Busta in the last 16 before he was taken to three sets and a tiebreak by 12th seed Ben Shelton last time out.

To beat Sinner this season players will need to be at their absolute sharpest and that may not apply to Zverev.

The German was dumped out in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters last season and a repeat could be on the cards, but given he leads the head-to-head 4-1 with Sinner, he should at least pick up a set in defeat.

Over 23.5 games - 10/11

Punters not wanting to settle on one player in this contest should consider a bet on over 23.5 games at 10/11.

Zverev has been pushed close in his last two matches in Cincinnati especially, with those assignments producing 25 and 34 games respectively.

That game count will surely only go up against Sinner, whose last match with Rublev featured 32 games.

It is also worth noting that in the last meeting between these players on the US Open hard courts in 2023, the contest went to five sets, so there is every chance this encounter could also go the distance.
