Jack Draper's impressive form has continued in California but the British No.1 will need to negotiate a difficult last-16 test when he faces 2022 champion Taylor Fritz for a place in the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells Masters.
Draper has breezed into the round of 16, hammering Brazilian rising star Joao Fonseca 6-4 6-0 then seeing off the challenge of US competitor Jenson Brooksby 7-5 6-4.
His recent performances, which also included a run to the final of the Qatar Open where he lost out to Andrey Rublev, have not gone unnoticed and the Sutton man is just 4/6 to defeat 6/5 Fritz, who has been inconsistent in the early stages of the season.
Over 23.5 total games - 5/6
On current form, it's no surprise to see Draper chalked up as the favourite for this contest and there is no doubt that the Briton has continued the improvement he displayed last season - both from a form perspective and a fitness one.
The world No.14 will return to a career-high 12th in the ATP rankings regardless of what happens in this round-of-16 contest and he could enter the world's top 10 for the first time if he goes further at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden this week.
The manner of Draper's two wins in California suggest he could have Fritz's measure, as was the case in their most recent clash at the Paris Masters in October, when the Londoner prevailed 7-6 4-6 6-4.
That victory saw Draper tie level at 2-2 in head-to-head meetings - he also won their first clash on the Queen's Club grass in 2022 before Fritz triumphed on clay in Munich and at the Olympics last year.
Unlike Draper, Fritz has been unconvincing both this season and in Indian Wells so far.
After winning all five matches to help guide the US to United Cup glory at the start of the year, he has failed to go beyond the quarter-finals in any of his three subsequent tournaments, with losses coming at the hands of Gael Monfils, Denis Shapovalov and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
While the American eased past 217-ranked Matteo Gigante, he was workmanlike in a three-set win over Alejandro Tabilo, although he should take confidence from the way he found his serve from the second set onwards and a similar performance could help him push Draper all the way.
The last three meetings between the pair went to a deciding set and, while Draper is the man in form, Fritz is unlikely to go down easily in his home state.
Over 23.5 total games, which could land even if the match fails to go to a third set, looks the value.
Taylor Fritz over 7.5 aces - 5/6
Despite his struggles in recent months, Fritz has still racked up plenty of aces, thundering in 12 in his third-round triumph over Tabilo, and he's likely to again rely on his serve in this contest.
He posted 20 aces across two matches in Dallas and a combined 31 during his two outings in Delray Beach.
His sole match since February in which he didn't register at least eight aces was his Indian Wells second-round win over Gigante, when he totalled five aces.
