It is the quarter-final stage at the Cincinnati Masters and there is a cracker on the cards as British ace Jack Draper prepares to face 15th seed Holger Rune.

The winner of the tie will progress to the last four of the ATP Masters 1000 event and will face either Hubert Hurkacz or Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals.

Draper is enjoying arguably the best season of his career but he has been made to work for his quarter-final spot in Cincinnati.

As for Rune, the Dane has struggled for consistency in 2024 and he will be desperate to get back on track with a deep run in this competition.

With Draper still in the early stages of his career, it is perhaps unsurprising that these players have not previously met on the ATP tour.

There are reasons to both support and oppose both Draper and Rune and for that reason, a bet on the match winner could be worth swerving.

Instead, punters should expect this match to go the distance in Cincinnati and a bet on there to be three sets in the match appeals at 11/10.

Draper has taken down some big names en route to the quarter-finals of this ATP 1000 Masters event but it has not been plain sailing.

In all three of his contests against Jaume Munar, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Felix Auger-Aliassime, Draper has been taken to three sets.

He reached the final of the Brisbane International but that was at the start of the year and it remains to be seen what kind of Rune will turn up.

With that in mind, he looks far too short to warrant backing against Draper and the total sets market is the way to go.

Another way to back a close match between Draper and Rune in the Cincinnati Masters is over 23.5 games at 5/6.

If punters expect this match to go the distance, then the games count should surpass that mark.

Draper's three matches at this year's tournament have featured 34 against Munar, 31 v Tsitsipas and 32 against Auger-Aliassime - all of which are comfortably above the games line.

As for Rune, his two three-set contests produced 25 and 28 games respectively and even his two-set win over Nuno Borges produced 22 games.

Both players are good returners of the ball but they could well cancel each other out, making it a back-and-forwards kind of contest.

Rune arguably has the edge in hard-court form after his run to the last 16 of the ATP Montreal but even then he did not show enough to suggest he will walk this contest, so this could be a lengthy encounter.
