Jack Draper v Aleksandar Vukic: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Both Jack Draper and Aleksandar Vukic have had to come through two five-set epics to book their place in round three of the Australian Open and their first ever head-to-head meeting could see them embroiled in another battle.

Draper has trailed 2-1 in each of his opening assignments against Mariano Navone and Thanasi Kokkinakis, showing the character and determination that helped him make the semi-final of last season’s US Open.

Meanwhile, the unseeded Vukic has delighted his passionate home crowd with deciding-set wins over Damir Dzumhur and Sebastian Korda to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

That would suggest that Draper holds the aces, but Vukic has the weapons to at least give the big-hitting Brit a scare in what may be another topsy-turvey encounter.

The winner of this contest will face either third seed Carlos Alcaraz, who is a four-time Grand Slam champion, or Portugal’s Nuno Borges in the last 16.

Jack Draper v Aleksandar Vukic betting tips and predictions

Jack Draper to win & both players to win a set - 6/5

Draper has been forced to dig deep in his first two matches at the Australian Open, coming through a pair of gruelling five-set wins over Navone and Kokkinakis.

Given the amount of injuries the British number one has had to deal with over the last few years and the lack of tennis he has played in recent months, it is impressive to see how strongly he has closed out those contests.

Draper is evidently not at the same level as he was when he made last year’s US Open semi-final, which offers Vukic some hope of causing the upset.

However, the Londoner is unlikely to pass up this opportunity and, while there may be a few scares along the way, he can book his place in the last 16, where third seed Alcaraz could be waiting.

Vukic has also displayed great resolve to come through two five-set clashes with Dzumhur and Korda, although this is evidently a much tougher test of his ability.

But a vocal home crowd are sure to give the Australian some sort of advantage and Draper may not be in good enough touch to come through this assignment in routine fashion.

Given all four Australian Open matches involving this pair have gone the distance, it makes sense to think that Draper will triumph but lose a set at 6/5.

Aleksander Vukic to make 15+ aces - 4/6

Both players excel on serve and there should be plenty of aces with Australian favourite Vukic fancied to make at least 15, in a contest which ought to test the pair physically and mentally.

It promises to be an absorbing encounter and Vukic will have to serve well if he is to put pressure on Draper, who is seeded 15th at Melbourne Park.

This is the first ever meeting between these players but Vukic will fancy his chances of keeping points short and sweet, having served 24 aces against Dzumhur and 17 in victory over Korda.

Kokkinakis served 11 aces in his defeat to Draper but there is every chance that Vukic, who has been broken only eight times despite going the distance twice, can surpass that number by compiling at least 15.
