Italy v Netherlands: Prediction, Tips and Odds

A 2-0 win over Australia handed Italy their second Davis Cup title last year and they are aiming for back-to-back triumphs when they clash with the Netherlands on Sunday.

While this is familiar territory for the Italians, the Dutch are into the final of the Davis Cup for the very first time following their 2-0 win over Germany in the semi-finals.

Wins for Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor meant the doubles match between Germany and the Netherlands was not even required.

And it was the same for Italy, who took an unassailable 2-0 lead in their semi-final tie with last year's runners-up Australia thanks to wins from Matteo Berrettini and the red-hot Jannik Sinner.

Matteo Berretini to win 2-1 v Botic van de Zandschulp @ 5/2

Berrettini's singles win in the semi-finals was far from straightforward and he could also be pushed to his limits by Van de Zandschulp in the Davis Cup final.

Berrettini edged past Australia's Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-7 6-3 7-5 in the semi-finals and looked in trouble after losing a first-set tiebreak.

In the end he required two hours and 39 minutes to defeat the Australian and Berrettini did not have things all his own way.

He dug deep to get the win and put Italy 1-0 up in their semi-final tie and the fact he leads the head-to-head with Van de Zandschulp 4-0 suggests he should do the same in the final against the Dutch.

But Van de Zandschulp is also unlikely to just roll over, having himself beaten Daniel Altmaier in three sets in the semi-finals and Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-4 in the quarter-finals.

He is up for the challenge and the fact this is a first Davis Cup final appearance for the Netherlands will not be lost on him.

Berrettini's added experience should see him over the line but he could be fatigued from his semi-final battle and Van de Zandschulp can take him to three sets.

Jannik Sinner to win 2-0 v Tallon Griekspoor - 1/5

Italy are heavy favourites to win the Davis Cup for the second successive year and it is likely they will win this final against the Dutch without the need for the final doubles encounter.

Indeed, should Berrettini edge past Van de Zandschulp in the first match, Sinner should wrap up the win in style against Griekspoor.

Griekspoor is 40th in the world rankings and is therefore the best Dutch player, but he is still some way off the quality of Sinner, who has enjoyed a sensational 2024.

Sinner has won two Grand Slam titles this season as well as the ATP World Tour Finals earlier this month and he has triumphed in 70 of his 76 matches on tour.

He already has eight titles to his name this year and would love to add another Davis Cup to his list of accolades, so punters should expect another dominant display.

Sinner blitzed past the talented Alex de Minaur 6-3 6-4 in the semi-finals and thrashed Sebastian Baez 6-2 6-1 when Italy took on Argentina in the quarter-finals.

He is showing no signs of end-of-season fatigue and should breeze past Griekspoor, having won all five of the previous meetings between the two players.
