Iga Swiatek v Jasmine Paolini: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Iga Swiatek can make history with a victory over Jasmine Paolini in the final of the Women's French Open on Saturday.

Only two women - Monica Seles (1990-92) and Justine Henin (2005-07) - have won three consecutive French Open titles but Swiatek could join that exclusive list this weekend.

The Pole reigned supreme at Roland Garros in both 2022 and 2023 and has once again looked like the standout competitor on the Parisian clay.

Swiatek booked her spot in the final with a 6-2 6-4 victory over third seed Coco Gauff in the semi-finals, while Paolini secured passage to her first ever Grand Slam final with a 6-3 6-1 defeat of Mirra Andreeva.

Iga Swiatek -6.5 games on handicap - 8/11

Betting on Swiatek to drop a set, let alone lose this match, is a bold move and it is no surprise to see her priced at 1/18 to come out on top.

This is Swiatek's third successive appearance in the French Open final and she has won her last 20 matches at the Grand Slam.

In this tournament, specifically, she has won five of her six matches in straight sets with a second-round wobble against Naomi Osaka the only blot on her copy book.

In that encounter, Swiatek had to save a match point before recovering to win 7-6 1-6 7-5 and that comeback seemed to spur her on.

She won her subsequent four assignments against Marie Bouzkova, Anastasia Potapova, Marketa Vondrousova and Gauff - dropping only 14 games in total.

As part of that run, she destroyed Potapova 6-0 6-0 and the top seed will take some stopping on the slower surface.

Against Gauff last time out, Swiatek was not even at her best, and didn't need to be thanks to her American counterpart's errors and she should have a little extra energy heading into this historic final.

More experienced players than Paolini have crumbled against Swiatek in Paris and it is hard to see past a comfortable win for the Pole.

Italian Paolini had never previously progressed past the second round of the French Open and, even though her run so far has been impressive, she could be out of her depth.

She defeated fourth seed Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals but that was the only seeded player she has faced and Swiatek represents a huge step up in quality.

Swaitek has won the two previous meetings between these two, dropping just three games in each victory, and this looks like something of a mismatch.

The way to play it is to back the defending champion at -6.5 games on the match handicap, meaning she needs to win at least seven games more than her opponent for the bet to come in.

Central to Swiatek's success at Roland Garros this year has been her strong starts and she can lay down a marker in the first set against Paolini.

In four of Swiatek's six matches at the clay-court Grand Slam this year there have been eight games or fewer in the first set and another fast start is expected from the Pole.

She has won the first set 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0 in her last three matches and under 8.5 games in the first set is another interesting selection at 4/5.

The nerves could well get on top of Paolini, who is in uncharted territory, and the match could quickly run away from her in Paris.
