There was once an expectation that in a post-Big Three context in tennis, Grand Slam honours could be shared around more with a more competitive field of elite players.
The emergence of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner has brought such a theory into question, with the pair accruing five majors between them across the past three years.
In fact, since 2023, no male player other than Alcaraz, Sinner, Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal has claimed glory in Grand Slam competition on the ATP Tour.
However, with Serbian great Djokovic finally showing signs of slowing down at the age of 37, there is the prospect of fresh champions emerging in the coming years.
We look at five players on the ATP Tour who are looking to win their first Grand Slam title in 2025.
Grand Slam record:
Australian Open - SF (2020, 2024)
French Open - F (2024)
Wimbledon - 4R (2017, 2021, 2024)
US Open - F (2020)
Of all of the players on the ATP Tour yet to get their hands on a Grand Slam title, world number two Alexander Zverev arguably looks best equipped to win a major in 2025.
The German enjoyed an outstanding season in 2024 to rise to number two in the ATP rankings, winning two Masters 1000 titles in Rome and Paris and reaching the final at Roland Garros.
At 6ft 6ins, Zverev is a physically imposing figure who has been tipped for Grand Slam greatness from a young age and won Olympic gold for Germany at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
At a peak age of 27, 2025 could represent the perfect window for Zverev to make the transition from nearly man to established Grand Slam champion.

Wimbledon - QF (2022, 2024)
US Open - F (2024)
Another player on the ATP Tour who appears on the cusp of Grand Slam immortality is American Taylor Fritz.
The same age as German rival Zverev at 27, Fritz had a breakout season in 2024 - reaching the final of both the US Open and ATP Finals.
A specimen of an athlete at 6ft 5ins who is renowned for his big first serve, Fritz has risen to as high as number four in the ATP rankings.
2024 proved Fritz's ability to mix it with the best at Grand Slam level, with 2025 set to test his credentials to develop into a bona fide major champion.

Grand Slam record:
Australian Open - 2R (2024)
French Open - 1R (2023, 2024)
Wimbledon - 2R (2022, 2024)
US Open - Semi-finals (2024)
Another player to have enjoyed a breakout campaign on the ATP Tour in 2024 was Britain's Jack Draper.
The heir apparent to the recently retired Andy Murray with regards to British presence at the elite level of tennis, Draper was able to shake the tag of promising youngster and develop into a genuine contender for Grand Slam jewels in 2024.
A big serving lefty, Draper memorably made it all the way to the semi-finals of the US Open last year before succumbing to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
It will be a big ask for Draper to surpass the likes of Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz and become a Grand Slam winner in 2025, but if he is to show the same rate of improvement as he did last year it is not beyond the realms of possibility.

French Open - F (2021)
Wimbledon - 4R (2018, 2023)

Another Grand Slam nearly man who will be desperate to break his major duck in 2025 is Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Like world number two Zverev, Tsitipas has finished as a Grand Slam runner-up on two occasions - at the French Open in 2021 and the Australian Open in 2023.
Unlike his German adversary, Tsitsipas did not come particularly close to getting his hands on an elusive first major during the 2024 season with a run to the quarter-finals at Roland Garros his best performance in a Grand Slam.
The world number 11 did win a Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo, however, and on his day undeniably boasts the skillset to give any player on the ATP Tour significant problems.
26-year-old Tsitsipas will be dreaming 2025 is the year he can finally be crowned Greece's first ever Grand Slam champion.

If there is to be a truly left-field winner of a Grand Slam competition 2025, Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard could be the man.
At 21 years of age, Mpetshi Perricard is one of tennis' fastest rising stars, with his staggering serve speeds bound to have prompted attention from the sport's elite players.
A 6ft 8ins giant, Mpetshi Perricard's average of 19 aces per match was the highest on the entire ATP Tour in 2024.
The Frenchman flew from 205 to 31 in the ATP rankings last year, winning his first ATP 250 title in his home city of Lyon in May before going one better in October when overcoming American Ben Shelton in the final of an ATP 500 event in Basel.
Although Mpetshi Perricard may remain a relative novice at the elite level of tennis, it may only require a notable injury to a main contender or a favourable draw to see the youngster become France's first male Grand Slam champion since Yannick Noah at Roland Garros in 1983.
