Emma Raducanu v Maria Sakkari: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Emma Raducanu can book her spot in the fourth round of the Wimbledon women's singles at the expense of ninth seed Maria Sakkari.

For the first time since she defied the odds to win the US Open in 2021, Raducanu is into the third round of a Grand Slam.

The British starlet has so far done well to shake off any expectations, but it is hard to ignore how she has performed in her opening two matches at Wimbledon this year.

And on Friday she could show her class again when she encounters ninth seed Sakkari.

Emma Raducanu to win - 4/6

When Raducanu won the US Open three years ago expectations naturally soared, but the British ace has had a tough time of it since her triumph at Flushing Meadows.

Her form dipped and injuries have played their part, with Raducanu missing three of the four Grand Slams last year, including Wimbledon, as a result of surgery.

But the aim was clear to see this season - prioritise Wimbledon and the grass-court swing.

Having decided to skip the French Open, Raducanu enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International and a semi-finals appearance at the Nottingham Open.

And she has carried her improving form into Wimbledon, taking down Elise Mertens 6-1 6-2 in the second round.

Ninth seed Sakkari awaits her in the third round, but Raducanu's composed but relaxed temperament has served her well so far and she is a solid pick to win the match.

Sakkari is also yet to drop a set at SW19, but was underwhelming at the Bad Homburg Open and the Grass Court Championships Berlin and Raducanu can make the most of a lively and supportive crowd at the All England Club.

Match to feature three sets - 11/10

For punters who are uneasy about backing Raducanu, another pick could be this match to feature three sets.

While Raducanu barely broke a sweat in her straight-sets demolition of Mertens in the second round, she was taken to a tiebreak in her first set of the tournament by Renata Zarazua in the first round.

The fact that Raducanu recovered from that wobble so convincingly speaks volumes about her composure, but that first set also showed there are vulnerabilities to exploit.

Form and home advantage are on the side of Raducanu, but Sakkari has reached this stage of Wimbledon on four occasions and will not go down without a fight.

Over 22.5 games - 5/6

Applying similar thinking to the second selection, over 22.5 games could also be a smart pick.

Raducanu's opener against Zarazua of Mexico produced 22 games and the total will surely be higher when she encounters the Greek.

Sakkari was comfortable in her second-round win over Arantxa Rus, but even that match produced 21 games in total and, if this goes the distance, the game count will only rise.

Raducanu's last win over a big name came against Jessica Pegula in Eastbourne and that match featured a total of 35 games, so do not be surprised if this match also goes the distance, with the Briton prevailing in the end.
