Emma Raducanu was handed a place in the fourth round of the Miami Open after McCartney Kessler's retirement on Sunday and next she's up against the hard-hitting American Amanda Anisimova on Monday.
Raducanu did enjoy an impressive start against Kessler, winning the first set 6-1 and leading 3-0 in the second before the American pulled out of the contest with a back injury.
Playing just 47 minutes in that match, there’s no doubt Raducanu will be the fresher of the two players when she comes up against Anisimova on Monday.
Anisimova was also impressive in her 7-6 2-6 6-3 win over Mirra Andreeva, who had been on a 13-match winning streak before coming up against the 23-year-old from New Jersey.
Raducanu and Anisimova are now on a collision course and the American’s powerful play might just prove the difference in this battle to reach the Miami Open quarter-finals.
Amanda Anisimova to win 2-1 - 11/4
After reaching the third round of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career, Raducanu rose to the occasion and her electric start against Kessler was too much for the American to handle.
It’s a shame the match was brought to a premature end with the back issue for Kessler proving too much, but Raducanu will still take plenty of positives from the contest as she progresses to the fourth round.
A very different challenge awaits the former US Open champion against the powerful Anisimova, who was excellent in her victory over the in-form Russian Andreeva.
Andreeva has been on an excellent run but she came up against a wall in Anisimova, who produced a strong finish to claim the decisive set 6-3.
Having ended Andreeva’s hope of Miami Open glory, Anisimova looks capable of doing the same to Raducanu, who has also had her injury issues leading up to and in this tournament.
Raducanu had treatment for a foot issue during her 7-6 2-6 7-6 win over Emma Navarro before the decisive set in the second round and it will be interesting to see how that potential injury is holding up.
The longer this fourth-round clash goes on for the more strain there will be on any foot issue for Raducanu and Anisimova has the tools to take advantage to win in three sets on Monday.
Under 21.5 total games - 1/1
Due to the significant power Anisimova has in her shots, going with the under 21.5 total games looks to be the way to go here at Evens.
Granted the hard courts at the Miami Open are slightly slower than others on the circuit but Anisimova’s power means she has the ability to take sets away from her opponent quickly.
With that in mind, and with the lingering uncertainty over Raducanu’s fitness, going with under 21.5 total games appeals in this one.
Amanda Anisimova to win from behind - 6/1
Having blown away Kessler in the opening stages, expect Raducanu to come flying out of the blocks again on Monday.
Raducanu will be the fresher of the two players and she can hit the ground running in this match to claim the first set.
However, Anisimova should eventually settle into this match and her power game can see the American turn this contest on its head to claim the victory.
