Novak Djokovic v Roberto Carballes Baena: How to watch, TV channel, start time and head-to-head stats

Novak Djokovic made a routine start to his French Open title defence, ousting home hope Pierre-Hugues Herbert in straight sets, and now the 24-time Grand Slam champion turns his attention to Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena.

Djokovic was made to work harder than many anticipated against Herbert as he took two hours and 33 minutes to prevail in a 6-4 7-6 6-4 win, and an even tougher match could be expected against Carballes Baena.

The Spaniard came past Frenchman Constant Lestienne 6-3 7-5 4-6 6-2 in his first-round victory, while he did finish runner-up to Matteo Berrettini in a clay-court event in Marrakech last month.

This is the third career meeting between these players but will be the first on clay and, unsurprisingly, both previous encounters have gone the way of Djokovic.

Both of those rivalries came in Grand Slam competitions and on each occasion Djokovic won in straight sets, with the first meeting coming at the US Open in 2019 and the latest arriving at last season’s Australian Open.

Djokovic has won 15 of his 21 competitive outings this season while Carballes Baena has lost four of his last six completed matches.

Carballes Baena has failed to go beyond the second round of a Grand Slam in his last 13 attempts.

Djokovic has won the French Open in two of the last three years and he has failed to make the quarter-final only once in his last 18 visits to Paris.
